Senior Character Designer (Game Design)

Azra Games is recapturing the childhood thrill of storytelling with your entire toy box for modern AAA gaming. We are dedicated to one genre, role-playing games, and led by veteran designer Mark Otero (Zero-to-one director of Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes, EA’s most successful mobile game of all time, with $1.5B lifetime revenue). Azra has assembled an expert team with decades of experience building blockbuster games. Our debut release, Legions & Legends, will be Mark’s ninth RPG. And his best. Azra Games believes in harnessing the power of technology, with a focus on generative AI, to radically disrupt & transform game development.

Azra Games is seeking a highly skilled and experienced character gameplay designer to help create unforgettable characters and abilities for our upcoming AAA game.  As a character designer, you will be responsible for creating memorable characters that move, fight, and control in unique ways.  You’ll work on a cross discipline team of artists, engineers, writers, and more to develop compelling characters the resonate with players globally. 

What You’ll Do:

• Design and create memorable, unique and visually stunning characters.
• Design and implement character abilities kits and behaviors.
• Refine the tactile feel of playing said characters in a 3^rd person action context.
• Collaborate with combat, enemy, and level designers to create characters that maximize all aspects of the player experience.
• Refine and improve character designs based on the feedback from the development team, playtests, and other sources.
• Maintain a strong understanding of industry trends and best practices in character design and contribute to the evolution of our game’s artistic style.

Requirements:

• 5+ years of experience as a character designer in the video game industry, with at least one shipped AAA title (or working on a live service for a AAA title)
• Experience working on a 3^rd person action game.
• Experience building gameplay abilities of videogame characters and how they move through 3d space.
• Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively in a team-based environment.t
• Familiarity with scripting languages and game engines like Lua and Unity.

Bonus Points For:

• Experience with creating characters for open-world games, or games with complex gameplay mechanics.
• Experience with creating character skins or other customization options.
• Experience on games with large (dozens +) character rosters.
• Familiarity with the free-to-play space and best practices for a live services game.
• A passion for RPG games.

Base Salary Range: $81,800-$122,700. The final salary offered for this position may take into account a number of factors including, but not limited to, location, skills, education, and experience.
