As a Concept Artist at Riot you will bring characters and environments to life. Drawing inspiration from as little as a napkin sketch or as much as a full-blown narrative concept, you will generate ideas and craft designs that are resonant, compelling and iconic. As a problem solver, first and foremost, you will come up with visual solutions for game concepts and world building. As a senior member of the team, you will help mentor your fellow team members to continue to raise the quality bar at the studio.

As a Concept Artist on the Research & Development team, you’ll work on a brand new unpublished game. You’ll partner with the Creative and Art leadership as you work across disciplines to help build foundational ideas and character concepts. You will be responsible for concepting key character and environment art that will play a huge role in defining them within the project. You will be the integral creative force behind the look, not just a contributor. You will need bold, creative ideas and a clear eye for details. Although most concept artists work independently, you also have to be great team players. Because, you will also work collaboratively with designers, writers, and producers to bring new worlds and characters to life.

Responsibilities:

Ideate and create character and environment concepts towards the creative vision
Communicate characters personalities and emotions through the character design
Discover and incorporate interesting trends and non-traditional reference
Craft detailed concept art for production artists
Continuously deliver high quality concept assets that fulfill the requirements of the project’s game and visual design
Collaborate with with artists on the team by providing and receiving creative/team feedback and providing clear creative goals and outcomes to your team
Understand League of Legends characters and recognize opportunities to enhance champion expression.
Meet project deadlines in a timely manner without compromising artistic integrity

Required Qualifications

3+ years of professional experience working in concept art
3+ years of professional experience working in Photoshop or equivalent software
Strong understanding of Hero-collector games and character-focused ARPG sensibilities.

Desired Qualifications:

Experience shipping at least one game title
Experience working with various game engines from licensed to proprietary
