Principal Program Manager

San Diego, CA

As a Principal Technical Program Manager, you will play a critical role in driving the successful execution of large-scale technical initiatives and programs. You will work closely with cross-organizational and cross-regional teams including engineering, product management, design, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment and delivery of scope, time, and budget targets. Your leadership and strategic vision will be instrumental in leading teams and domains towards simple and coherent approaches overcoming challenges, mitigating risks, and delivering high-quality results. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Portfolio Management and Program Leadership: Responsible for defining and delivering important programs with broad cross-organizational, cross-regional, and significant business impact. Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of very large and significantly complex technical programs, ensuring adherence to project timelines, budget, and quality standards. Drive business and/or program strategy, bringing clarity and structure to programs and business challenges that are often not clearly defined.
  • Stakeholder Management: Build strong relationships and effective partnerships with all levels of leadership, including internal and external stakeholders. Adeptly build consensus, effectively communicate program status, risks, and dependencies, and solicit feedback to drive continuous improvement. Represent complex decisions, tough trade-offs, and potential solutions clearly to leadership to help them understand the options available and the decisions needed. Exhibit excellent judgement when driving executive-level escalations.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate with engineering, product management, design, and staff /management of multiple worldwide development partners to clearly define and communicate project requirements, priorities, timeline and milestones. Drive alignment towards common objectives.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential risks, dependencies and opportunities in strategies and/or organizational structure(s), develop mitigation strategies, and proactively address issues to minimize impact on deliverables.
  • Resource and Organization Management: Allocate resources effectively, including personnel and budget to support program objectives and ensure optimal utilization of assets. Improve how organizations align and interact to achieve goals. Apply your knowledge to invent, evolve, improve and simplify processes. Accelerate progress by creating and optimizing cross-domain structures and operating mechanisms.
  • Technical Expertise: Leverage your deep technical knowledge and experience to provide guidance and mentorship to project teams, resolve technical challenges, and drive innovation.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive process improvements and adoption of standards to enhance program management capabilities, increase efficiency, and deliver superior results. Amplify impact to SIE by actively educating your program teams and wider PMO organization on program management best practices.
  • Cultural Leadership: Set guidance regarding team leadership. Continuously help others and actively mentor PMO members to expand their knowledge base in multiple areas.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years’ proven experience leading and managing complex technical programs in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and inspire cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically, prioritize tasks, and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Experience with Systems Development Lifecycle and Project Management methodologies, specifically Agile/Scrum
  • Expert level experience with JIRA – ability to build custom dashboards and show an understanding of how to manage JIRA as a source of truth.
  • Must drive strategic decision making with senior cross-functional team, including executives.
  • Bring clarity, calm and process to ambiguous, stressful or complicated situations.
  • Must exercise judgment regarding if, when, and how to escalate issues and drive to results including executive stakeholders, resolving issues without need for direction.
  • Experienced in mentoring junior team members and contributing to the continued improvement of PMO.

At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role’s base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location.

Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.

$220,900$331,300 USD
