The Baseball Operations Department of Major League Baseball is currently seeking candidates for a paid, 2024 summer internship in New York City. The internship runs ten weeks from June 3rd through August 9th. Candidates should currently be enrolled as an undergraduate in a four-year college or university or as a graduate student.
The Baseball Operations Department is responsible for overseeing and administering all on-field and rules components of MLB. The Baseball Operations Department consists of several groups, including Amateur, Baseball Economics, Medical, Minor Leagues, On-Field Operations, Player Programs, Transactions, and Umpiring. Summer interns in the Baseball Operations Department will work primarily in one of the aforementioned groups and will have an opportunity to work on projects relating to:
- The MLB Draft
- Salary arbitration
- Major League transactions
- The trade deadline
- International amateur signings
- Club payrolls
- Player contract structures
- Medical studies
- Pace-of-play
- Bat regulations and on-field equipment
- On-field technology
- Strategic initiatives
Well-qualified candidates are:
- Proficient communicators, both orally and in writing
- Detail-oriented
- Highly proficient with the Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel
- Familiar with large data sets and various statistical concepts
- Knowledgeable about current MLB events – both on and off the field
