About the role We are now seeking a Publicity Manager – Australian Open (AO) to join our team on a 12-month fixed term basis. This is a fast-paced, hands-on role suited to an experienced and creative publicist, likely with an agency background and with a strong news sense and eye for a great story and photo opp. You’ll bring outstanding relationships, sharp writing skills and ability to juggle multiple campaigns in a high energy environment. As AO Publicity Manager, you’ll lead a year-round publicity strategy that elevates the tournament’s global and domestic profile, drives integrated storytelling across traditional and new media, and showcases the tournament’s innovation, commercial partnerships, and core pillars of food, family and entertainment. Reporting into the Head of PR, you’ll collaborate with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to drive traditional, digital, and social coverage for the Australian Open year-round. From major announcements and partner campaigns to influencer activations and media relations, you’ll play a key role in shaping how the world sees the AO! In this role you will: Lead the development and delivery of a year-round AO publicity strategy, including announcements, story angles, campaigns, and media opportunities Identify and pitch newsworthy stories to local, national, and international media, driving awareness, engagement, and partner objectives Collaborate with Marketing, Content, Digital, Operations, Broadcast, Player Relations, and Commercial teams on new initiatives and integrated campaigns Develop media materials and manage events, from press releases and media kits to launches, stunts, and photo opportunities, including briefing and preparing key spokespeople as required Work with the Content team on influencer and creator strategies to expand coverage across new platforms Recruit, brief, and manage seasonal publicity staff, contractors, and interns, and oversee media monitoring and campaign reporting for stakeholders and partners About you To be successful in this role you will: Have proven experience in Public Relations or a similar role, with a passion for sport, major events, and storytelling that engages audiences Be skilled at building and maintaining collaborative relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders including journalists, broadcasters, influencers and creators Demonstrate excellent presentation and communication skills, both one-on-one and in group settings Have strong organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage complex timelines and deliver under tight deadlines Hold (or be willing to obtain) a current Police Check and Working with Children Check Preparedness to be flexible regarding working hours and arrangements relating to work associated with Tennis Australia What’s to love?
