About Sleeper

Sleeper is one of the largest fantasy sports communities and a leader in real money gaming including Daily Fantasy Sports (“DFS”) and Prediction Markets. Our mobile-first platform connects millions of sports fans through season-long fantasy, real money contests, and community-driven experiences across major professional sports leagues. We operate in a fast-paced, high-growth, and regulated environment where financial accuracy, operational excellence, and pride in your individual contributions are critical to success.

The Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented and forward-thinking Corporate Accountant to lead the company’s core accounting function out of our midtown Manhattan office. This role oversees a team of part-time staff who account for payables and other daily activity and is responsible for the month-end close and associated financial and tax reporting routines. The person in this position will be the primary interface for external auditors, NetSuite technology consultants, and, eventually, the regulator of the company’s prediction markets business.

This role reports directly to the company’s Vice President of Compliance and Finance and the person in it needs to work seamlessly with the treasury team in finance as well as engineers, data scientists, and operations people across the organization. Candidates must be US GAAP-trained accountants (CPAs preferred) with advanced Excel skills and at least five years of experience using NetSuite for bookkeeping and reporting.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes

  • Prepare complicated journal entries, including for revenue and user activity, as well as accruals and amortization entries

  • Be responsible for month-end bank and GL account reconciliations

  • Take ownership of general ledger accuracy and supporting documentation

  • Manage accounts payable processes, including invoice review, coding, approvals, and vendor management

  • Comply with the daily accounting and reporting obligations of our CFTC-regulated Futures Commission Merchant (“FCM”) entity that houses our rapidly growing prediction markets business

  • Assist with payroll accounting and equity-related accounting entries

  • Partner with external auditors and assist in preparing audit schedules, documentation, and responses during the annual audit process

  • Help design, implement, and maintain strong internal accounting controls and process documentation

  • Help ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies

  • Improve and document accounting processes and internal controls

  • Work directly with the CFO on financial analysis and planning

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (required)

  • Minimum 5 years of NetSuite experience (required)

  • Advanced Excel skills

  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills

  • Ability to switch seamlessly between independent work and leading team

Bonus Points

  • Experience in gaming, fintech, or other regulated industries

  • Experience with multi-state payroll or revenue streams

  • Having used AI tools such as Claude or ChatGPT to enhance NetSuite functionality

  • Someone from a small company where they had a wide breadth of responsibilities and had to be an independent contributor as well as a leader

Why Sleeper

  • Opportunity to own and shape the accounting function at a growing startup

  • High visibility and close partnership with company leadership

  • Collaborative, fast-paced, flexible, and entrepreneurial culture

Sleeper believes in quality over quantity and in constantly stretching what employees believe they are capable of. Teams are kept lean, there are few layers of management, there are no only-managers, and bureaucracy is abhorred. From accountants to designers and customer success to compliance personnel, we are all focused on building the best environment for connecting people over sports.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and, potentially, stock options

  • Comprehensive and heavily-subsidized health, dental, and vision insurance

  • 401(k) plan

  • Lenient PTO policy

  • Opportunities for career advancement
