Job Description

About This Role

Strava is the app for active people. With over 150 million athletes in more than 185 countries, Strava is where connection, motivation, and personal bests thrive. No matter your activity, gear, or goals, we help you find your crew, crush your milestones, and keep moving forward. Start your journey with Strava today.

Our mission is simple: to motivate people to live their best active lives. We believe in the power of movement to connect and drive people forward.

We’re seeking a Director of Revenue Accounting / SEC Reporting who thrives at the intersection of technical accounting, SEC reporting, and revenue operations. This is a rare opportunity to build the financial infrastructure of a company that inspires movement around the world.

We follow a flexible hybrid model that translates to more than half of your time on-site in our San Francisco office — three days per week.

What You’ll Do:

SEC & Technical Accounting

  • Lead preparation of all key SEC filings, including 10-K, 10-Q, and 8-K, ensuring quality and compliance at every step.
  • Partner closely with external auditors, Legal, FP&A, and Investor Relations to deliver transparent and aligned disclosures.
  • Maintain and evolve accounting policies (with particular focus on revenue recognition).
  • Assess new accounting pronouncements, collaborating across teams to ensure thoughtful adoption and clear communication of impacts.
  • Determine treatment for non-standard or complex transactions; document and collaborate with external auditors.
  • Lead the monthly and quarterly accounting close package, including preparation of consolidated financial statements.

Revenue

  • Ensure all revenue-generating transactions are recorded accurately, timely, and in line with Strava’s revenue recognition policy.
  • Oversee non-subscription revenue, including Strava for Business (SfB) invoicing, recognition, and collections.
  • Partner with Product, Legal, and Finance to proactively evaluate revenue implications of new product features, pricing models, and contract negotiations.
  • Collaborate with Data and Engineering to design automation and build SOX-compliant controls for contract intake and revenue reporting.

What You’ll Bring to the Team:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA required.
  • 10-15+ years of progressive accounting and reporting experience, including Big 4 and corporate experience (public company preferred).
  • Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP, SEC reporting requirements, and technical accounting (especially revenue recognition).
  • Demonstrated experience leading SEC filings and managing external auditor relationships.
  • Proven leadership skills with a track record of building, mentoring, and scaling high-performing teams.
  • Strong communicator who can translate complex accounting matters into clear business language.
  • Experience with process automation, systems design, and internal controls (SOX).
  • Thrives in fast-paced, high-growth environments where flexibility and cross-functional collaboration are key.

Why You’ll Love Working Here:

  • You’ll take a leadership role in preparing Strava for its next big milestone: life as a public company.
  • You’ll partner with brilliant teams across the business—Product, Legal, Finance, Engineering—while shaping the systems that keep Strava strong and scalable.
  • Your work will directly support Strava’s mission to connect athletes everywhere and inspire movement across the globe.

Compensation Overview:
