Strava is hiring an Engineering Manager to build and lead our Map Rendering Engine (MRE) team within our Map Platform organization. This is an opportunity to be part of a team that is focused on developing rich and immersive map experiences that help our users plan, navigate and relive their activities. As an Engineering Manager for the MRE team, you will be responsible for the execution of the Map Platform strategy and the management of the team.

This is a hybrid role based out of our Berlin, Germany office. Salary Range: €128,743 - €132,548  

 

You’re excited about this opportunity because you will:

  • Build and lead a team of engineers focused on various areas within our 2D and 3D map visualization across multiple platforms.
  • Define, design, and deliver new map rendering capabilities that enable product development teams to efficiently deliver new product features and functionality. 
  • Grow and cultivate a collaborative, cross functional and high performing culture that prioritizes engineering excellence.
  • Work closely with other members of the Map Platform department and engineering leaders on company wide initiatives such as the technology vision, hiring, and scaling company processes and best practices.

You will be successful here by:

  • Collaborating across multiple engineering teams to elaborate the MRE team’s roadmap and capacity planning
  • Leading team discussions ahead of development cycles and ensuring all supporting materials are updated (Confluence, JIRA, GDoc)
  • Ensuring proper communication and visibility of ongoing projects and upcoming tasks across the Map Platform organization
  • Setting clear delivery goals and holding the team accountable to them.
  • Demonstrating empathy for our users and their experience while using Strava.
  • Coaching the engineers on the team and supporting their career development at all different levels and career stages.
  • Managing conflicting priorities between Product and Engineering.
  • Embracing an inclusive, collaborative environment that elevates a diverse set of voices and experiences.

  • Have extensive experience leading engineering teams to deliver on ambitious goals.
  • Have worked on customer-facing applications or functionality at scale, ideally in the Graphics space or an adjacent space.
  • You will hire amazing people to join our team.
  • Are not unfamiliar with C++ development practices and challenges.
