Position Title: Freelance Researcher for NHL and MLB Network
Position Reports To: Manager, Research
Position Summary: Network seeks a Freelance Researcher, which is an entry-level position that provides support to the entire production process, as assigned. The Researcher must have basic television production skills, a strong passion for and knowledge of hockey as well as baseball and an exceptional work ethic.
Responsibilities: Specific responsibilities include:
- Write and contribute to research packets.
- Provide relevant information that contributes to previews and insights for individual games as well as special events (e.g., Winter Classic, All-Star Game, etc.), as assigned.
- Build, edit, and confirm graphics that air throughout daily live programming hours throughout the course of the season.
- Effectively utilize the various research tools, reference materials, and approved vendors at the department’s disposal to answer various requests from network Talent and Producers.
- To be an active participant at production meetings and in control room for live shows, adding input and stats/storylines when relevant.
- Other such duties as required.
Skills & Experience: The ideal candidate must have most if not all of the following skills and experiences:
- 1-5 years’ experience or related business experience is required.
- Must demonstrate a passion for and deep knowledge of NHL and MLB and their history.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills – a background in sports writing is preferred.
- Effectively utilize research tools. Experience with Adobe Premiere Edit Software, Diamond Logger, ENPS and other editing computer programs are preferred.
- Familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel).
- Individual must work well in a dynamic and team-oriented environment.
- Demonstrate the tact, diplomacy, decisiveness, and superior people skills required in a pressurized live television environment.
- Be extremely organized, demonstrate initiative and an ability to complete multiple assignments in a timely manner.
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
- Possess the manual dexterity to effectively operate keyboard/mouse on computers, edit equipment, etc.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to navigate distances of various lengths within the work environment.
Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Broadcast Journalism or a related major is required.
Work Classification: Standard: Employee permitted to work remotely generally 20% of the week, with the remote day to be determined by the employee and their manager and/or their department head.
