Game Design Director

We are seeking an experienced Design Director with a strong background in game development and leadership, having a proven track record of delivering successful titles across PC, console, or mobile platforms. The Design Director will shape the creative vision and direct teams from concept to production and launch, ensuring alignment with project goals and maintaining high quality standards throughout.

This role requires a combination of creative leadership, production expertise, and strong communication skills, as well as a deep understanding of game design principles and industry trends.

This position reports directly to the Executive Director.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design discipline contribution to new project opportunities, crafting compelling designs and tailored solutions to showcase expertise and meet client goals. 
  • Participates in the bid proposal process, helping select the best Designers for new projects across various areas. 
  • Lead the product vision and direct the design team from concept through production to launch and beyond. 
  • Provide high-level direction, constructive feedback, and inspiration to the team throughout the development process. 
  • Collaborate with production teams to ensure timelines, budgets, and creative goals are met. 
  • Stay current with technological advancements and market trends to enhance production processes and maintain best practices. 
  • Mentor and support game designers, fostering a creative and collaborative work environment. 
  • Involved directly in hiring and interviewing senior candidates and leads 
  • Collaborate with Talent Management on career development and growth planning for designers 
  • Represent the company in customer calls and at industry events, fostering relationships with potential partners and collaborators. 

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Game Director or in a senior leadership role in game design, with at least 5+ years on full development cycles for console or PC titles.
  • Extensive experience in a Lead or Principal Designer capacity for 8+ years.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and mentorship abilities.
  • Expertise in game design principles, production workflows, and design documentation.
  • Proficiency in game engines, tools, and software commonly used in game development (e.g., Unreal Engine, Unity).
  • Ability to inspire and motivate creative teams through clear vision and leadership.
  • Knowledge of current industry trends and an innovative, creative mindset.
  • Willingness to travel to present projects, meet external partners, and visit studios as needed.
  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written.
