THE ROLE

PlayOn! Sports is looking for a Head of Data & Insights to be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company's enterprise data and analytics platform. That includes BI / Reporting Tool selection, consolidation and retirement of legacy tools. This role requires a strategic thinker with a strong analytical mindset, exceptional leadership skills, and a proven track record of delivering actionable insights that contribute to our success as a business. This role will enable the organization to leverage data across departmental plans and activities to drive better operations and outcomes. As we continue to expand and innovate, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of Data & Insights to drive our data strategy forward.

Additional responsibilities and accountabilities for this role include:

• Strategy Development: Develop and execute a comprehensive business intelligence strategy aligned with organizational goals and objectives.
• Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of BI analysts and data professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence.
• Data Governance: Establish and enforce data governance policies and procedures to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and security across the organization.
• Data Management: Procure, budget and maintain the necessary BI Licenses (i.e. Looker or Periscope) to relevant users in Digital Sales and key stakeholders. Ensure appropriate Information Security policies are implemented. Manage the resolution of BI reporting issues by engaging with respective data, process, system owners and vendors to address issues impacting day to day operations of stakeholders.
• Data Adoption: Provide the necessary training and/or resources for key users to ensure appropriate user adoption. Partner with Product leaders and future product analysts to help measure new product features.
• Data Development: Define, design and develop the necessary core reporting architecture to enable appropriate automated Business Intelligence software solutions. Collaborate with the data/reporting owners to fully define, document and gain functional sign off for reporting requirements. Analyze all complex data, business logic, processes and identify requirements for enhancements to improve data cleanliness and further adoption
• Analytics and Reporting: Drive the development of advanced analytics capabilities and intuitive reporting solutions to provide actionable insights to stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with key stakeholders across departments to understand business requirements, prioritize BI initiatives, and drive alignment on data-driven decisions.
• Continuous Improvement: Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in business intelligence, continuously seeking opportunities to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of BI processes and tools.
• Performance Monitoring: Establish KPIs and performance metrics to measure the effectiveness of BI initiatives, regularly monitoring and reporting on key trends, insights, and outcomes.
 

THE PERSON

• Proven experience in a senior leadership role within business intelligence, data analytics, or a related field.
• Proven track record of scaling organizations by quickly assessing status quo and establishing teams, processes, and systems tailored to organizational needs
• Required experience in B2C environments, generating actionable consumer insights (B2B2C experience highly preferred)
• Experience collaborating across departments with the data and insights (Executives, board, etc.)
• Advanced knowledge of SQL, Python, R, or other programming languages commonly used in data analysis.
• Proficiency in BI and analytics tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Qlik, or similar platforms.
• Skillful at balancing strategic thought-leadership with hands-on involvement, willing to roll-up sleeves to produce results
• Strong understanding of data management principles, data warehousing, and ETL processes.
• Proficient in communicating data insights effectively to diverse audiences, emphasizing practical applications over theoretical exploration
• Ability to navigate various stakeholder relationships while establishing the BI team as the source of truth (high EQ)
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Business Administration, or a related field.
