The Role - Head of Legal

Reporting into the CFO, The Head of Legal will be responsible for overseeing all legal aspects of Unmind’s operations. This is a brand new role and you will help shape the Legal function and processes across Unmind. This includes corporate matters, fundraising activities, business contracts, compliance, intellectual property, HR legalities, and managing a team of infosec experts. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker, capable of balancing legal risk with business needs, and possess strong leadership skills to manage and develop the legal team.

Key Responsibilities:

Corporate Matters:

  • Oversee general secretary housekeeping, including board meetings, minutes, and corporate filings.
  • Manage corporate governance and ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

Fundraising:

  • Lead legal aspects of fundraising activities, including drafting and negotiating shareholders’ agreements and warranties agreements.
  • Provide legal support for investor relations and equity financing.

Business Contracts:

  • Draft, review, and negotiate Master Service Agreements (MSAs), Statements of Work (SOWs), and infosec agreements.
  • Ensure contracts align with business objectives and mitigate risks.

Tax:

  • Oversee transfer pricing documentation and compliance.
  • Collaborate with finance and external advisors to optimise tax strategies.

Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with GDPR, acting as the Data Protection Officer (DPO).
  • Oversee ISO 27001 accreditation and maintain high standards of data security.

Intellectual Property:

  • Develop and execute IP registration and protection strategy.
  • Manage IP portfolio and address infringement issues.

HR Legal Matters:

  • Provide legal advice on labour law and HR policies.
  • Handle employment agreements, disputes, and terminations.

Business Partnership:

  • Act as a business partner to various teams, providing legal insights and support.
  • Foster strong working relationships across the organisation, especially Sales team

Procurement Contracts:

  • Draft, review, and negotiate procurement contracts to ensure favorable terms for Unmind.
  • Manage supplier relationships and contractual obligations.

Team Management:

  1. Manage and mentor a team of 3 infosec experts.
  2. Coordinate with external legal experts as required.

Requirements

We encourage you to remove education from your CV upon application as qualifications are not a driving factor in our decision making and we are committed to tackling educational inequality. We firmly believe that no one is the finished article and that there should be learning in every role you do. However, some experience in the following is important for this position:

  • Qualified lawyer with a minimum of 10 years of legal experience, preferably within a high-growth tech or SaaS environment.
  • Proven track record in corporate governance, fundraising, and managing business contracts.
  • Strong knowledge of GDPR, data protection laws, and ISO 27001 standards.
  • In-depth knowledge of AI and its legal implications.
  • Experience in intellectual property strategy and management.
  • Expertise in HR-related legal matters and labour law.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and develop a high-performing team.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to balance legal risk with business needs.
  • High ethical standards and integrity.

Our salary intelligence, powered by our AI algorithms, has calculated an estimated range for this position between $85,000 - $120,000 . Please note that the actual salary for this position may vary, as it is dependent on various factors including but not limited to experience, location, and market dynamics.
