The mission of the User Growth team at Roblox is to connect the next billion users to Roblox by building the industry’s most sophisticated engine for acquisition, activation, and retention. As the platform evolves to include a more mature, 18+ audience and a catalog of high-fidelity, AAA-quality experiences, the User Growth pod is responsible for reimagining the end-to-end user lifecycle. 

This is a high-impact leadership role requiring a Systems Thinker who can navigate the complex interplay between content supply and user demand. You will lead the strategy for our four core pillars—Consideration, Activation, Retention, and Reactivation—transitioning legacy UX ownership into a unified, high-velocity growth unit. Reporting to the Head of Discovery, you will apply first-principle thinking to solve the "demand-side" challenge: ensuring that as our content catalog ages up, we are acquiring and retaining the specific audiences those games need to thrive.

This role is based in San Mateo, CA (hybrid with Tuesday-Thursday onsite). 

Important Challenges

  • The Growth Flywheel: Deeply understanding the "demand vs. supply" mechanics of the Roblox marketplace. You must architect how discovery and ML recommendations drive a self-sustaining flywheel where new content genres attract new user cohorts, which in turn incentivizes further developer investment.
  • Aged-Up Activation: Leading the evolution of our first-time user experience (FTUE) to ensure Roblox is perceived as a premier entertainment destination for adults (18+), moving beyond its historical "all-ages" or younger-skewing roots.
  • Ecosystem Health & Balance: Managing the delicate balance of a multi-sided marketplace. You will ensure that growth tactics for one segment do not degrade the experience for others, optimizing for long-term platform health over short-term "hacks."
  • Full-Loop Ownership: Unifying disparate technical stacks (AuthSec, Social, Notifications) to build a seamless "Consideration-to-Retention" loop, leveraging advanced growth tech like Server-Driven UI (SDUI) and automated notification triggers.
  • Growth Infrastructure: Building a scalable engine—including SDUI, deep linking, and automated notification stacks—to deploy dynamic growth interventions.

You Will:

  • Drive Strategy & Vision: Define the 2026+ roadmap for User Growth, moving from a "merchandising" mindset to a "lifecycle engine" mindset.
  • Deeply Understand Content & Verticals: Deeply understand unique user and business challenges for these new content types and verticals that we want to bring to the platform (e.g., AAA games, 18+ experiences), and translate these insights into creative product designs and solutions.
  • Architect AI-Driven Growth: Partner with world-class Machine Learning/AI and Data Science teams to build recommendation systems that solve the "cold start" problem for new aged-up users.
  • Optimize the Funnel: Connect user and platform value to Northstar metric. Own them for the platform's entry points.
  • Innovate / Execute via First Principles: Break down complex growth hurdles—such as the trade-off between signup friction and user signal collection—to their fundamental truths and build novel, evidence-based solutions.
  • Bridge Technical & Non-Technical Domains: Provide guidance and insights to non-technical audiences and hold your own with world-class experts on machine learning and data science.
  • Lead Cross-Functionally and Cross-Org: Align Engineering, Design, and Product Marketing around a unified vision for "Ecosystem Growth," ensuring that technical foundations (like Deep Linking and SEO) support broader business goals. Effectively lead, influence, and coordinate with other orgs to see through the vision’s landing across the entire funnel. 

You Have/Are:

  • A System Thinker & Problem Solver: You don't just build features; you design systems. You understand how a change in the notification stack affects social density, which in turn impacts long-term retention and ecosystem health.
  • First-Principles Driven Innovator: You have a track record of challenging industry conventions and building 0-to-1 products based on fundamental truths rather than analogies.
  • Technical & Quantitative Depth: A formal degree in a technical field (Computer Science, Math, ML, Econometrics) and a deep fluency in how mathematical modeling and AI drive search and recommendation systems.
  • Ecosystem Expertise: 10+ years of product leadership in high-scale consumer tech, with a focus on marketplaces, UGC, or social platforms. You understand the unique incentives of a creator economy.
  • Narrative Mastery: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. You can synthesize complex data-driven arguments into clear logic chains for executive stakeholders.
  • Innovative Problem Solver: You are comfortable in high-pressure environments with competing priorities and can deterministically find the most impactful path forward.
  • Passionate about the Future: Driven by the challenge of defining the metaverse for all ages and scaling it to billions of users.

For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits as described on this page.

Annual Salary Range
$383,120$439,280 USD

Roles that are based in an office are onsite Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional presence on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).
