About the Role

As the Instructional Design Specialist, you will be responsible for designing a training curriculum for our team members. You will ensure that all training materials, activities, and assessments align with current processes and procedures. The focus of this role is making connections with people, educating and inspiring them to achieve results, and supporting the L&D function to thrive with best-in-class training experiences. A self-confident, extroverted style that can enliven, engage, and positively impact individuals and groups is essential.

Your work at Outdoorsy:

  • Development of new or evolving current curriculum
  • Translate subject matter expertise into instructional content through original and modified course materials, visuals, activities, and other documentation
  • Design and develop courses from initiation through completion using predetermined development tools adhering to templates, design, and brand standards
  • Design and develop effective e-learning content for incorporation into the LMS
  • Conduct training needs analyses and recommend appropriate learning solutions
  • Maintain and update course-related content
  • Develop learning materials to assist facilitators in other departments in the execution of learning objectives, not limited to Slide Decks, handouts, e-learning modules, facilitator guides 
  • Use feedback and data to iterate on instructional designs for continuous improvement
  • Administer our Learning Management System (LMS) 

Requirements

What you will bring to the table:

  • Able to commit a minimum of 30 hours of work from Jan-May
  • Previous experience designing training programs for diverse populations
  • Experience with technologies and best practices for instruction 
  • 1-3 years of proven experience with Instructional Design and e-learning content creation, with a portfolio showcasing successful projects
  • Knowledge of adult education in the corporate environment
  • Strong organizational skills with great attention to detail
  • Excellent oral and written communication abilities including interpersonal relations
  • Ability to work independently and foster a cooperative spirit within a large and/or small team, while working in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects, deadlines and frequently changing priorities
  • Ability to quickly grasp complex technical concepts and translate them into an easily understandable format
  • Solid computer and technical skills 
  • Experience leveraging Absorb or similar LMS platforms
  • Online course development with tools like Captivate and Storyline

Benefits

This is a contract role. The expected range of dates for this contract are Jan 2024 - May 2024, but this is subject to change.

The compensation for this role is $30.00 USD per hour.

We continue to have our home and headquarters in Austin, Texas, but we have embraced a distributed model of working to reach the best talent in the United States and globally. While some roles may require proximity to our Austin office, roles based outside of our Austin office can sit in any of the following 21 US states: AR, AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, IL, IN, MN, MO, MT, NV, OH, OK, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, and WV. The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in accordance with potentially applicable laws. The final agreed-upon compensation is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience, and geographic work location. The total annual compensation package may consist of a base salary and bonus dependent upon position.
