The Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games will be hosted in Los Angeles, California in 2028, returning to the United States for the first time in over 30 years. 2028 will be the first time LA hosts the Paralympic Games, creating an opportunity to expand awareness, understanding and inclusion of people with disabilities.
LA28, the organizers for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles, is on a mission to create an unparalleled Games experience for athletes, fans, partners, our community and our people. Our vision is to collectively create what’s next through sport, community and the power of our differences.
The 2028 Olympics and Paralympics will represent LA and leverage the strength of our community’s diversity and creativity as we collectively work to design a Games that we all want to be a part of. We do this by focusing on people and by inviting everyone into the story of the LA28 Games.
The LA28 organizing committee is an independent, non-profit organization that is privately funded and governed by a board of directors.
The 2025 LA28 Internship Program gives current and recent undergraduate students the opportunity to contribute hands-on, meaningful work to crucial planning stages for the 2028 Olympic & Paralympic Games. Interns will be placed in a specific functional area, directly supporting the day-to-day work and long-term projects of the team. In addition, interns will participate in unique roundtables, community service, and research projects as a cohort to deepen understanding of the organization, our mission, and key skillsets to pursue a future field of their choice. This is a paid, 10-week, 30-hour-a-week program, in person at our Los Angeles Headquarters.
The External Affairs (EA) team at LA28 leads The External Affairs team is responsible for creating and maintaining LA28’s remarkable reputation and relationships with and support from key external stakeholders and for using the convening power of the Games to leave a positive impact on the people of Los Angeles. It is comprised of interconnected functional areas that are seeking a summer intern: Government relations and Impact.
Government Relations: Government Relations (GOV) is responsible for ensuring government support for the Games and spearheading strategy and execution at the local, state, and federal levels.
Impact: Collaborates with commercial partners, civic organizations, and nonprofits to establish the programs and initiatives that will drive LA28’s Impact commitments of youth sport and economic empowerment. Builds and supports community outreach strategies that will generate support for LA28 and aid in the delivery of the Games.

The External Affairs team is looking for an intern in each of the following areas: Impact and Government Relations. If you are interested in multiple areas, we kindly request applicants to rank their choices and provide explanation within their application.
Government Relations: The Government Relations team advocates for policies to enable a successful 2028 Games through Federal, State, and Local Governments. Stakeholders range from the City of Los Angeles Recreation and Parks Department to U.S. Embassies around the world and consulates for numerous international governments. The team serves the entire LA28 organization by working to secure Federal, State, and local resources and builds partnerships to ensure we leave a positive legacy for Los Angeles, the region, and beyond.
Key Responsibilities:
Impact: Impact is responsible for developing and delivering strategic plans and programs tied to the organization's social impact commitments in youth sports and economic empowerment in the Greater Los Angeles region. Within economic empowerment, the intern will support programming around workforce development. Additionally, the impact/community relations team is tasked with developing community outreach engagements with key stakeholders in support of Games planning and operations, marketing, transportation, ticketing and security.

Interns can expect an hourly rate of $18.00 per hour and will be scheduled to work a 30-hour week. The pay scale provided is the range that LA28 reasonably expects to pay as starting base compensation for this role. All LA28 compensation remains subject to final determination based on individual candidate qualifications, experience, or other reasonable criteria consistent with LA28’s operational business needs and applicable law.
