The Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games will be hosted in Los Angeles, California in 2028, returning to the United States for the first time in over 30 years. 2028 will be the first time LA hosts the Paralympic Games, creating an opportunity to expand awareness, understanding and inclusion of people with disabilities.

LA28, the organizers for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles, is on a mission to create an unparalleled Games experience for athletes, fans, partners, our community and our people. The 2028 Olympics and Paralympics will represent LA and leverage the strength of our community’s diversity and creativity as we collectively work to design a Games that we all want to be a part of. We do this by focusing on people and by inviting everyone into the story of the LA28 Games.

 The LA28 organizing committee is an independent, non-profit organization that is privately funded and governed by a board of directors.

Intern, Games Operations & Delivery:

The 2025 LA28 Internship Program gives current and recent undergraduate students the opportunity to contribute hands-on, meaningful work to crucial planning stages for the 2028 Olympic & Paralympic Games. Interns will be placed in a specific functional area, directly supporting the day-to-day work and long-term projects of the team. In addition, interns will participate in unique roundtables, community service, and research projects as a cohort to deepen understanding of the organization, our mission, and key skillsets to pursue a future field of their choice. This is a paid, 10-week, 30-hour-a-week program, in person at our Los Angeles Headquarters.

The Games Operations & Delivery division at LA28 leads the decision making for the logistics, services, infrastructure, energy supply/distribution and Field of Play (FOP) for each venue and is looking for interns in the following functional areas (FAs):  Event Management, Energy, Venue Infrastructure, and Sport. 

• Event Management (EVM) is responsible for determining and refining the logistics and services at the events.
• Energy (NRG) is responsible for evaluating the supply and demand structure of each venue, anticipating and then refining the demand from various other functional areas, and providing a temporary solution to ensure redundancy in the power supply.
• Venue Infrastructure (VNI) is responsible for delivering the competition and non-competition venues to host the Games, including the design, development, maintenance and removal of all Games infrastructure in existing and fully temporary venues.
• Sport (SPT) is responsible for the Field of Play and the sporting/parasporting events and athletic services.

Interns on the Games Operations & Delivery team are anticipated to develop skills relating to the functional area where they are assigned. Applicants will be considered for all four FAs listed but will be selected based on relevant experiences and skillsets.

Functional Areas & Key Responsibilities:

The Games Operations & Delivery team is looking for an intern in each of the following areas: Event Management, Energy, Venue Infrastructure, and Sport. If you are interested in multiple areas, we kindly request applicants to rank their choices and provide include an explanation within their application.

Event Management: The Event Management team is responsible for leading the integrated event operational planning at the venue level for all competition and training venues and some major non-competition venues.  The group is also responsible for managing and coordinating the negotiation of venue agreements, the collation and organization of venue-related documentation and data, and the maintenance of strong working relationships with all venue partners. The ideal candidate has a background in data analysis, project management, and event operations.

Key Responsibilities: 

• • Update venue-related data in Games planning data management systems
  • Update and enhance event management-led platforms for integrated operational planning
  • Update platforms for integrated venue communication and information/documentation distribution (SharePoint, Smartsheet)
  • Prepare templates, toolkits and other planning assets that support venue teams with executing operational planning, venue site visits, and venue use agreements
  • Develop, organize, and track comprehensive meeting and project agendas, materials, and follow-ups, proactively monitoring and managing action items
  • Collate and prepare presentation materials for varied audiences, including colleagues, business partners, and senior leaders

 

Energy: The Energy Team is responsible for ensuring the end-to-end delivery of power to all Games venues and facilities. The Energy Team coordinates with other LA28 functional areas, external utility service providers, government organizations, venue owners and temporary power providers to ensure the successful delivery of electrical services and operations to power all Games operational sites. The ideal candidate has a background in electrical engineering, construction management, and/or project management. 

Key Responsibilities: 

• • Electrical design evaluations including
    • Develop detailed electrical studies to determine load requirements
    • Perform energy capacity analysis and identify gaps in existing service supply
    • Perform analysis to identify energy related risks to venue power supply
    • Perform analysis to recommend solutions to meet requirements for loading, reliability and resiliency needs
    • Track design revisions from EVM and evaluate how they will impact the NRG designs for the TPP Overlays on existing HV/MV/LV infrastructure and equipment
  • Energy program management
    • Perform various administerial functions that will assist the Program Management Office (PMO) in scheduling and coordinating with FA’s requiring energy
    • Track outstanding To-Do List items for employees within the NRG Team as well as Utility Service Providers (USP) and Venue Operations Management representatives
    • Take meeting minutes, distribute them and incorporate relevant comments from attendees as well as upload To-Do List items
    • Research age and maintenance for power Supply and Demand infrastructure including equipment and materials
    • Track progress of USP and VOM capital improvement projects that will impact power generation capabilities for legacy power systems
    • Follow up with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ’s) for design review progress in construction and design permitting
    • Update schedule software and milestone tracking spreadsheets with relevant progress and delays to mission critical activities

 

Venue Infrastructure: The Venue Infrastructure team is responsible for ensuring on-time and on-budget delivery of all venue infrastructure and venue overlay for the staging of the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games – creating the optimal environment for athlete performance, fan engagement, and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate has a background in engineering, construction management, and/or project management.

Key Responsibilities:

• • Master Schedule updates, including following up on milestones for and impacts to other functional areas
  • Cost Plan tracking and updates, including the extraction and reporting of delivery costs by venue, commodity, supplier, sport, and/or delivery method
  • Regulatory mapping, including layout of process of permit acquisition for the various authorities having jurisdiction for different types of entitlements

 

Sport: LA28’s Sport team is responsible for insuring all Olympic and Paralympic sports are delivered within the International Sport Federations’ (IFs) requirements while providing world-class services that enable athletes to perform at their best. Sport collaborates internally across departments (ex: Venue Management, Venue Infrastructure, Government Relations, Ticketing) and externally with key stakeholders (ex: IOC/IPC, IFs, OBS, NGBs) to advance planning on deliverables such as the competition schedule, testing and readiness, and workforce planning. Athletes, coaches, or other sport enthusiasts in Olympic or Paralympic Sport(s) are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities: 

• • Supporting International Federation webinars including producing content, scheduling, facilitating access and managing stakeholders.
  • Support International Federation visits through agenda development, meeting management and document support.
  • Support Sport Managers with updating Sport Delivery Plans including monitoring communications, updating meeting notes and working cross functionally to monitor progress.

 

Background & Qualifications:

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

• Must be able to work in a mainly in-person environment, 4-5 days in our Los Angeles office
• Must be able to work the full 10 week duration of the internship from June 16 – August 22, 30 hours a week
• This role requires extended periods of computer use and virtual collaboration.
• Occasional travel to venue sites or external events may be required.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
• May need to work some non-traditional work hours for specific events, such as evenings or weekends (will be communicated well in advance)
• May require lifting and transporting materials, such as documents, technology equipment, or event-related supplies (up to 25 lbs).  

Education:

• Bachelor's or Associate's degree in progress or recent graduate [graduation date December 2024 or later]

Interns can expect an hourly rate of $18.00 per hour and will be scheduled to work a 30-hour week. The pay scale provided is the range that LA28 reasonably expects to pay as starting base compensation for this role. All LA28 compensation remains subject to final determination based on individual candidate qualifications, experience, or other reasonable criteria consistent with LA28’s operational business needs and applicable law.
