MAJOR PURPOSE:

The Irrigation Technician for the Jackie Robinson Training Complex (JRTC) is for the maintenance and repair of the landscaping and athletic field irrigation systems throughout the property. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operates power equipment and hand tools to install, maintain, and repair irrigation systems and related components including irrigation lines, sprinkler heads, control panels, valves, pumps, etc.

  • Checks system for proper operation and timing.

  • May participate in the design or modification of new or existing systems.

  • Performs seasonal maintenance such as system charging and draining.

  • Maintains inventory of related parts and supplies.

  • Maintains work area, storage facilities, personal protective, and application equipment in a safe and operable manner.

  • Comply with OSHA safety standards.

  • Assist Groundskeepers with grounds maintenance tasks when necessary, including but not limited to mowing, field prep and debris blowing/cleanup. 

  • Assist with field tarp placements during adverse weather conditions.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Assist Manager, Grounds or Manager, Grounds.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.

  • Minimum 1-year previous experience and/or training involving irrigation system maintenance and repair; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

  • Knowledge of tools, equipment, techniques, skills, materials, and methods of irrigation system design, installation, and maintenance.

  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and drawings.

  • Ability to operate equipment such as trenching machines and digging tools and other related grounds/ landscape equipment.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license. 

  • Ability to lift/move/carry items weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis and up to 75 pounds on an occasional basis.

  • Ability to use/operate typical groundskeeping hand tools and power equipment on a regular basis.

  • Able to work irregular hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.

  • Candidate must be a professional, self-starter who will work as a team player and be able to work independently with minimal supervision. 

  • Detail-oriented and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
