Engineering at Gametime:
You will be a pivotal member of the Engineering team that builds and supports client-side applications and backend systems that power the Gametime experience for millions of users. At Gametime, we prioritize empowering our engineers to take ownership of their code, cultivating a culture centered around testing, code reviews, metrics/observability, experimentation, and operational excellence. The Role:
We are seeking an experienced Lead Backend Engineer to be the first hire for our Payments Team.  This role presents a unique opportunity to shape the trajectory of the team, taking ownership of critical areas including payment processing, supplier payments, fraud detection/prevention, sales tax, and accounting ledger. 



  • Ownership of Key Areas
  • Play a pivotal role in the initial discovery phase, leveraging your experience to understand the systems that support our payments and transactions, engaging with stakeholders across departments to understand their needs, and strategically scoping the roadmap and technical changes needed.
  • Operate in a role with high visibility, responsibility, and autonomy, taking full ownership of all key areas for the team.
  • Design and implement robust solutions to ensure the reliability and security of financial processes.
  • Interface with multiple departments to shape the team's roadmap and ensure alignment with overall company objectives.
  • Have a direct impact on the success of the team by influencing technology decisions and driving innovative solutions.
  • Lead the design and execution of impactful projects end-to-end from ideation to production launch.
  • Team Building and Leadership
  • As the inaugural team member, lead and help build the Payments Team, influencing its direction and success.
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performing culture, attracting top talent to the team.
  • Influence Gametime’s technology and team by giving tech talks, mentoring and promoting engineering best practices.
  • Chart your growth path with the opportunity to transition into Engineering Management, leveraging your experience to mentor and lead a growing team.

  • Our ideal candidate has:
  • 6+ years of full-time backend software engineering experience
  • 1+ years of experience as a Team/Tech Lead 
  • Prior experience in the FinTech industry, demonstrating a deep understanding of financial technologies, payment systems, and/or accounting solutions.
  • Proficiency in at least one backend server language (e.g. Golang, Ruby, Python, Java, C++, C#, Rust, Scala)
  • Production experience with database storage systems, SQL (Postgres, MySQL, Cloud Spanner) and/or NoSQL (Mongo, DynamoDB, Bigtable, Cassandra)
  • Experience with cloud native technologies
  • 4+ years of experience working with a major cloud platform (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure)
  • Experience with containers, microservices architecture, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), serverless, observability
  • Experience building high throughput, fault-tolerant, distributed systems
  • Experience working in a fully remote team
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Self-starter with strong problem-solving skills and a creative approach
  • Ability to clarify ambiguity and work in dynamic fast-paced startup environment

Please note that the actual salary for this position may vary, as it is dependent on various factors including but not limited to experience, location, and market dynamics.
