This role is a key member of FanDuel’s dynamic Legal Operations team, which drives process improvement, operational excellence, and innovation across the Legal and Compliance organization. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in outside counsel management, eBilling, and matter management, combined with the strategic vision to lead and continuously enhance our outside counsel management program.

As a critical cross-functional partner, this role collaborates closely with outside counsel, Finance, Accounting, Procurement, and Legal leadership, requiring exceptional stakeholder management, negotiation, and relationship-building skills. The Senior Manager will lead the active management of outside counsel performance and spend, including rate benchmarking, law firm evaluation metrics, and budgeting and forecasting.

A strong foundation in data analysis is essential to identify trends, uncover savings opportunities, and translate insights into actionable recommendations. Experience within the internet, technology, or media industries, or with clients in those sectors, is highly desirable. Above all, success in this role requires superior analytical, strategic, and communication skills, a collaborative mindset, and a strong work ethic. The Senior Manager will play a pivotal role in setting and driving strategic initiatives, ensuring compliance, and fostering a culture of partnership and continuous improvement within the Legal organization and across FanDuel.

In addition to the specific responsibilities outlined above, employees may be required to perform other such duties as assigned by the Company. This ensures operational flexibility and allows the Company to meet evolving business needs.

THE GAME PLAN
Everyone on our team has a part to play

  • Develop and execute the outside counsel management strategy, aligning on billing guidelines, rate structures and performance metrics
  • Drive 1-3 year strategy for outside counsel management and operational transformation within Legal Operations
  • Lead strategic planning and budgeting processes for outside counsel spend, driving accountability and alignment with corporate financial goals.
  • Serve as the key liaison for firm relationship governance, promoting best practices, cost transparency and partnership value.
  • Conduct spend benchmarking and market analysis to inform rate negotiations and educate our matter leads.
  • Oversee reporting and analytics within Brightflag to deliver actionable spend insights and business intelligence to Legal leadership.
  • Manage invoice review, approval workflows, accruals, and budgeting processes to ensure compliance with billing guidelines and financial accuracy.
  • Collaborate with IT, Finance, Procurement and Accounts Payable stakeholders to enhance system capabilities and data integrity.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and trends in legal operations to continuously improve processes.
  • Negotiate and manage relationships with outside counsel and vendors.
  • Lead and manage legal projects, ensuring timely and successful completion.
  • Develop project plans, timelines, and deliverables, and track progress against goals.
  • Collaborate with the CLCO and other senior leaders to develop and implement the legal department’s strategic plan.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to improve legal processes and support business objectives.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and professional growth.
  • Evaluate and design metrics to show the Legal and Compliance function’s impact across the company
  • Develop and mentor junior team members in Legal Operations best practices

THE STATS
What we're looking for in our next teammate

  • 7+ years of experience in Legal Operations, Finance, or related roles, with deep expertise in outside counsel management and eBilling.
  • Advanced proficiency in Brightflag (system administration, reporting, and configuration).
  • Proven success leading cross-functional legal spend management programs in a global or matrixed environment.
  • Strong financial acumen with expertise in budgeting, forecasting, and data analytics.
  • Demonstrated experience in law firm performance management, benchmarking, and billing guideline enforcement.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Passion to work hard in a fast-paced, start-up environment
  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA, or equivalent advanced degree preferred.
  • An exceptional team builder and team player, with a desire to be a leader within FanDuel

The applicable salary range for this position is $146,000 - $170,000 USD, which is dependent on a variety of factors including relevant experience, location, business needs and market demand. This role may offer the following benefits: medical, vision, and dental insurance; life insurance; disability insurance; a 401(k) matching program; among other employee benefits. This role may also be eligible for short-term or long-term incentive compensation, including, but not limited to, cash bonuses and stock program participation. This role includes paid personal time off and 14 paid company holidays. FanDuel offers paid sick time in accordance with all applicable state and federal laws.
