THE JOB / Octagon Basketball – Marketing Manager
We are looking for a motivated salesperson to join our successful team. The main responsibility for this position is to generate revenue by developing and selling marketing partnerships for our athlete clients.
In this role you will support marketing efforts for NBA, WNBA, and NIL clients and lead marketing efforts for NIL clients. The ideal candidate will have previous experience building talent partnerships, working directly with a brand, brand agency or the talent, and possesses a solid rolodex of brand relationships.
Who we’re looking for
- You have 6-7 years of experience in talent marketing or a related field
- A proven record of generating and closing deals; experience in cold calling
- Previous experience with a brand or brand agency and a solid foundation of brand relationships
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships in the industry
- Ability to work with little supervision; ability to set priorities and solve problems in a demanding, fast-paced environment
- Excellent oral and writing communication skills with effective phone sales ability
- Excellent organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail
- Ability to use good business judgment and to make quick decisions in situations where discretion is required
- Enthusiasm for client service and team player attitude
- Prior athlete marketing experience is strongly preferred
The work you’ll do
- Utilize an extensive network of existing and new contacts and relationships to generate revenue through the creation, development, and maximization of marketing partnerships for our NBA athlete clients
- Lead marketing efforts for NIL clients, particularly in local college-town markets and influencer opportunities
- Build and manage relationships with NIL marketing platforms (Opendorse, MOGL, INFLCR, Postgame, etc.) that house revenue-generating opportunities
- Liaison between client and horizontal Octagon divisions (public relations, social media, etc.) to continue developing client’s brand for future long-term opportunities
- Develop and execute marketing strategies to effectively sell athlete sponsorships
- Generate and follow-up on sales opportunities to reach set sales quota
- Work closely with internal and external contacts including peers, clients, and prospects
- Establish and maintain relationships with sponsors and industry contacts, especially within the basketball industry
- Travel to events and meetings as needed
- Have a general understanding and contribute to other sales opportunities for all of Octagon’s clients and properties particularly in the Talent + Properties division
