Job Description

This opportunity is open exclusively to undergraduate students from Wadham and St John’s Colleges at the University of Oxford. Applicants must be available from 6 July to 28 August, with applications due by Sunday, 18 January.

For 30 years we’ve been independently developing and publishing incredible video games at our multiple studios founded by Jason & Chris Kingsley, but Rebellion is more than just games. We have our own film studio, we create board games, publish books, and through 2000AD, publish comics and graphic novels such as the amazing Judge Dredd.

As a QA Intern, you’ll collaborate with experienced professionals, build practical skills, and contribute to real projects at our creative and relaxed headquarters along the Oxford riverside.

We are actively recruiting for a diverse team and continue to add to our culture of growth and inclusion. Rebellion encourages innovation in all areas, and we look forward to hearing how you can help us to be better. We encourage all demographics of culture, gender, ethnicity, neurodiversity and beyond, because a representative team makes better products.

What you’ll do

  • Engage in practical experience with actual games in development, assist in testing features, identifying bugs, and ensuring that the gameplay experience is enjoyable.
  • Collaborate closely with our QA team to assist with daily responsibilities, including the verification of fixes, the documentation of bug reports, and engaging in gameplay analysis.
  • Become a part of the team by engaging in the morning stand-up meetings, attending project discussions, and providing updates on your ongoing work.

What you’ll learn

  • The comprehensive process of game development, encompassing planning and production, progressing through testing, and potentially culminating in release.
  • The characteristics of effective QA will be explored, including best practices for testing, our deliberate approach to identifying failures, and our commitment to enhancing the quality of games.
  • Ability to engage in interdisciplinary collaboration whilst working alongside designers, developers, artists, and producers.

Requirements

  • Internships are exclusively accessible to undergraduate students from Wadham and St John's Colleges at Oxford University.
  • Available for attendance from 6 July – 28 August.
  • You are an avid gamer with experience in a diverse range of games across multiple genres and platforms. You possess a keen understanding of what makes a game polished and enjoyable, as well as what can be frustrating at times.
  • You have confidence in using both keyboard and mouse as well as controllers, and you feel at ease starting games on either PC or console without the need for a tutorial.
  • You possess a natural curiosity and a systematic approach; whether you encounter bugs or anything that feels amiss, you enjoy investigating thoroughly to uncover the underlying issue.
  • You take pleasure in tackling challenges and identifying trends; puzzles, systems, and logical reasoning resonate with you, and you are open to trying new approaches.
  • You have a keen attention to detail, allowing you to recognize typos, misalignments, glitches, inconsistencies, or any other flawed elements.
  • What is most important to us is your enthusiasm, attitude, and eagerness to learn quickly. In QA, no two days are alike.
  • Right to work in the UK for the duration of the internship.
  • All applications must be submitted by Sunday, 18 January.
