About the Role:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and service-minded Payroll & Benefits Specialist to oversee accurate and timely administration of U.S. multi-state payroll and provide support with benefits programs. This remote, part-time role (20 hours/week) reports to the Sr. Manager, People Operations and plays a critical role in ensuring compliance, data accuracy, and positive employee experience.

What You’ll Do:

Payroll Management, Tax Registration, & Compliance (Primary Focus)

  • Process full cycle semi-monthly, multi-state U.S. payroll with a high degree of accuracy, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (including sensitive and off cycle payroll and timesheet validation). 
  • Conduct pre- and post-processing audits (including timesheets, registers, adjustments, leave plans, 401K funding, deductions/earnings amounts and codes, etc)  to ensure strong data integrity.
  • Closely partner with our payroll provider and state agencies on payroll tax registrations, TPA/POA set up matters, filings, notice resolution, wage reporting, and compliance matters.
  • Manage garnishments, liens, and child support deductions, communicating updates with employees as needed.

Benefits & Employee Support (Secondary Focus)

  • Support administration of health, disability, retirement (401k), and wellness programs.
  • Assist with new hire benefits orientation, open enrollment, and compliance reporting (including 1094/1095-C, nondiscrimination testing, etc).
  • Partner with brokers and vendors to resolve billing and reconciliation issues.
  • Provide employees with timely, clear responses to payroll and benefits-related questions.

What We’re Looking For:

  • 3+ years of payroll administration experience (multi-state strongly preferred); benefits administration exposure is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Paylocity  and HiBob or similar HRIS systems.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. payroll compliance requirements (i.e state pay laws, FLSA, FMLA, COBRA, ERISA).
  • Strong Excel skills and comfort with Google Workspace and AI tools.
  • You treat AI as a core part of your workflow, using tools like ChatGPT to enhance productivity and output.
  • High degree of attention to detail, organizational skills, and a customer-service mindset.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating across People Team, Finance, and external partners.
  • Ability to identify and respond to shifting priorities while meeting deadlines.
  • Stay up-to-date with federal, state, and local payroll and benefits laws and regulations.

Our compensation ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire compensation for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

Hourly range: $45 / hour - $50 / hour
