The Role: Product Director, Sports Tech

The Genius Sports Product Team is looking for a smart, talented, and experienced Product Director to lead our Sports Tech initiatives. The Product Director will manage a team and work with leading global leagues (e.g., NFL, EPL, NCAA, FIFA, FIBA, CEV, etc.) and teams to build, enhance, and maintain a variety of products that enable the creation, operation, management, and analysis of sporting competitions around the world. 

The ideal Product Director candidate will have experience working on modern data-driven B2B SaaS software solutions with a proven ability to envision, define/scope, build, launch, and grow industry-leading products.  You and your sports tech team will be responsible for a suite of sports tech management products that enable leagues to schedule and manage competitions, enable statisticians to capture data in real-time from within sports venues, and enable teams to analyze their team's and their competitors' advanced statistics to optimize future performance. 

As a product leader at Genius, you will also focus on building better product processes, honing existing ones, improving overall product team performance, and building consensus across the organization to a common product vision, strategy and roadmap.  This role relies heavily on data. You will need your team to focus on individual KPIs while concentrating on connecting those small-scale numbers to the business’s broader success metrics.  This ability to connect product investments to business impact/results is essential. 

 

Job Responsibilities:  

Specific responsibilities for the Director of Product, Sports Tech and her/his team include the following:

Grow and develop our product management capabilities at Genius

  • Hire & develop a leading Product Management team using a combination of leading by example, coaching, and education to grow the overall product talent density at Genius Sports.
  • Oversees teams who work across multiple feature(s)/feature areas to ensure delivery of sports tech roadmap on time and on budget
  • Provides strategic direction to the sports tech product team helping them to identify data-informed, long-term investment opportunities, evaluating tradeoffs, and prioritizing investments in consultation with cross divisional partners for feature(s)/feature areas.

Create and maintain a Competition Management Strategy & Roadmap

  • Partner with Leagues and Federations (e.g., NFL, EPL, FIFA, FIBA, CEV, etc.) to create a product vision and strategy for our competition management offerings
  • Partner with Leagues and Federations as well as internal stakeholders (partnerships, commercial, engineering, operations, etc.) to build and maintain a product roadmap for our competition management products
  • Balance investments across a portfolio of competition management solutions cutting across 3 Horizons (Now, Next, Future)

Build, Maintain, and Grow our Stats/Data Collection and Competition Management Tools

  • Understand customer needs, develop requirements, and build human and computer-vision driven tools for collecting real-time sporting event data (passes, rushes, touchdowns, turnovers, etc.) at the team and individual player levels
  • Understand customer needs, development requirements, and build competition management solutions that allow teams and leagues to improve every step of how they run their sport, including fixture generation and management, allocation of venues, and building squads, rosters, and lineups.  
  • Rationalize our various data collection and competition management tools to minimize the number of those being utilized/supported including sunsetting legacy tools, migrating customers off those tools, evolving current tools, and building new tools where necessary

Position Requirements 

  • 7+ years of relevant product management experience
  • 5+ years of management experience, with at least 3 years of it managing a product team
  • Product management experience building B2B SaaS or other relevant software applications
  • Strong background in BI and/or Analytics required; experience working on data-oriented products preferred
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills, including experience presenting to executive leadership, participating in the sales cycle, and handling sensitive, critical issues.
  • Experience working in and delivering products or services in an agile/lean environment including backlog management (user stories, epics and bugs)
  • Deep experience in gathering and transforming product requirements into a practical product roadmap.
  • Degree or equivalent relevant experience required.

The salary for this role is based on an annualized range of $170,000 - $200,000 USD. This role will also be eligible to take part in Genius Sports Group's benefits plan.
