Job Description

We're putting together a talented team to build the #1 training platform for Runners

We help everyday runners become outstanding by providing world-class training, coaching and community for everyone, whether you're improving your 5k time or training for your first marathon. To date we have built iOS, Android and Apple watch apps that help people achieve their goals by coaching them through the full journey and syncing to their favourite fitness devices.

We’re growing extremely fast and in November 2023 closed a new £5M funding round led by JamJar with participation from Eka Ventures, Venrex and Creator Ventures. We want to grow as fast as we can into the future and are looking for individuals who will help us get there. For more about our background and growth check out our Careers Page!

We’re now looking ahead to the future and the people who want to help us build and scale Runna. Our aim is to reach millions of subscribers in the next 5 years and be the go-to training platform for any runner. Now is a magical time to join, we're still small, and everyone makes a foundational difference.

What you’ll be doing

We are looking for a talented and creative Product Manager to join our highly-skilled and cross-functional Train Team to help develop the underlying engine that Runna is built on. You’ll be working at the cutting edge of fitness development, working with more data and users than anyone’s ever been able to before to enable a new era of training personalisation.

Specifically you’ll be working with a Senior PM on the Training Engine, helping users generate incredibly personalised training plans, and adapt them to their busy lives. You’ll also be working closely with our coaches, modelling engineers, other Product Managers and Product Designers to help shape the future of Runna.

As a Product Manager on the train team, your key responsibilities will include:

  • End-to-end product management: Working across the full product development cycle from speaking to users, to developing the product strategy, roadmap and backlog, to working with designers and engineers to build and then managing release and support
  • User Research: Speaking to lots (and lots) of users to understand their needs and how we can improve their training
  • Product Strategy: Use your understanding of our users, their needs, and the wider market trends to prioritise what we need to build next and why. Own the roadmap and strategy for how we drive business impact through product innovation.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Using quantitive and qualitative user feedback as well as user behaviour analytics to prioritise and inform product decisions
  • Team Leadership: You’ll be working with a product team of 6-10 engineers to develop our Training Engine (building the optimal plans for users) and our Adaptivity Engine (how do we take current and past factors to adapt your plan)
  • Stakeholder Management: Communicating progress, insights, and decisions to the wider business. Building strong relationships with marketing, customer support, and other teams to align efforts and achieve common goals.
  • Market Analysis: Staying abreast of industry trends, competitor activities, emerging technologies and be inspired by other high-growth consumer apps. Using this knowledge to feed into plans and initiatives for Runna.

Questions you might be answering:

  • How might we adapt a plan around off-track runs, rearranged workouts and missed workouts?
  • How might we help a user build other regular runs into their plan, like run clubs?
  • How might we adapt a plan around unexpected illnesses?
  • How might we help a user adapt their plan as they return from injury?
  • How might we help a user adjust their plan if they suffer an injury mid plan?
  • How might we use live data (recovery, HRV, menstrual cycle etc) to adapt your plan?
  • How might we help a user adjust their plan if they are running somewhere with heat, elevation, altitude, terrain or high winds?

Requirements

We’re looking for someone that loves…

  • Executing at speed: Proven track record of working closely with engineers and designers to scope lean and value-creating features, understanding how we measure success and then scaling and iterating them based on these metrics.
  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to see the big picture and develop long-term plans while also being detail-oriented and hands-on
  • Engaging With Users: Deep empathy for users and a passion for creating or improving products to enhance their lives. Ability to confidently and independently speak with users and translate complex user needs into actionable roadmap items.
  • Diving into Data: Proficient in using data and analytics to drive decision-making. Comfortable and proficient with metrics, KPIs, AB testing and conducting experiments.
  • Communicating: Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to clearly articulate ideas, requirements, and feedback to diverse teams outside of tech!
  • Leading and Collaborating: Proven track record of leading cross-functional teams and driving growth through fast and iterative experimentation. Ability to motivate and organise the work of multiple team members.
  • Adaptability: Comfortable working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Ability to pivot quickly in response to changing priorities or market conditions.

What experience we’re looking for

We care most about you reading the ‘We’re looking for someone that loves…’ section and thinking

“Wow this role was made for me!”

That said, we do need you to have 2+ years of proven experience in Product Management, preferably in a B2C tech startup.

About You

  • Have shipped end to end consumer features, from ideation, scoping, to delivery, launch and iteration
  • Have worked in a start-up or a fast-paced environment with an ability to pivot quickly in response to changing priorities or market conditions
  • You’re a “doer”; not just a “thinker”. You’re hands on and want to roll up your sleeves / get stuck in (you have a real ‘go get it’ attitude)
  • You’re low ego - you’re here to collaborate and work with the team
  • You’re confident independently leading lots of user interviews (at least 5 per week), and sharing these findings with the wider team
  • You’re a problem-solver with a strategic mind
  • You have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • You take your work seriously, but don’t take yourself seriously
  • Are experienced working closely with designers and engineers
  • You’re London based (or able to work in person 2+ days per week)

Bonus points if you:

  • Have a strong academic track record (A-Levels and University)
  • Have a technical background (Engineering, Computer Science, Maths, Physics etc)
  • Have worked in (react-native) mobile application teams
  • Have worked with modelling, applied sciences or AI teams before
  • Have a strong interest in the health/fitness technologies
  • Are a runner! Seriously, this is a big bonus and knowing the difference between Intervals and Tempo sessions, sets and reps and HR and pace etc will help a lot with onboarding!

Our interview process

Our aim is to keep the interview process as straightforward and enjoyable as possible, and will consist of the following stages:

  1. Kick off! (Please apply here via Workable)
    1. Please let us know if there’s anything we can do to better accommodate you throughout the interview process - this can be from scheduling interviews around childcare commitments to accessibility requirements. We want you to show your best self in the process ❤️
  2. Introductory chat with Alex, Senior PM for Train (30 minutes video call)
  3. Product experience interview with two Runna PMs (45 minute video call)
  4. Product case study with Alex & Dom our co-founder (45 minutes interview)
  5. Meet the team! A chance to come into the office, meet the rest of the train team as well as the co-founders and leadership. (Normally around an hour)

Once the process is finished, we promise to let you know our decision as soon as possible.
