Special Projects

The Special Projects team at Epic is responsible for executing high-impact projects that push the envelope to define the future of real-time graphics and gaming technology (The Matrix Awakens, Lumen in the Land of Nanite). In collaboration with the Unreal Engine team, we strive to put our technology and knowledge into the hands of users, empowering developers and content creators with the most powerful suite of real-time tools in the world.

What You'll Do

As a Research Engineer, you will engage in advanced research and development of a real-time facial tracking software system for facial motion capture. You will be required to upgrade data generation and collection pipeline systems for enhancing the performance of the products. You will also conduct research and apply relevant state of the art technologies for system improvement.

In this role, you will

  • Conduct research and assess feasibility to adapt relevant technologies in computer vision and machine learning;
  • Lead the design, development of a highly optimized deep learning models using PyTorch or Tensorflow Python modules, and deployment of products running in real time with millisecond level latency;
  • Lead the design, development and modification of tracking software system components using C++ and Python.
  • Lead the design, development and management of a data pipeline system using Maya, Unreal Engine and Python;
  • Operate a data pipeline system including sourcing , loading, transforming, extracting and augmenting data for training or testing machine learning algorithms on target digital images;
  • Confer with management and production staff to discuss project specifications or procedures

What we’re looking for

  • Master's degree in Computer Science or related field plus 2 years of related experience
  • 2 years of experience in each of the following
    • Computer Vision problems using machine learning and/or deep learning approaches
    • Python; C++
    • Delivering tangible, deployable code and software solutions. 
  • 1 year of experience with PyTorch or Tensorflow.
