LA28 is the independent, non-profit, privately funded organizing committee for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Senior Associate, Communications:

The Senior Associate, Communications will provide comprehensive guidance across LA28's communications function, assisting with strategic communications programs that drive awareness and support for the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games. This role supports day-to-day communications operations including media relations, content development, stakeholder communications, and event organization. The Senior Associate will work closely with the VP of Media Relations and communications team members to execute initiatives that engage local, national and international audiences while supporting LA28's commercial, community, and public affairs objectives. This role will report to the Manager of Communications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the development and execution of strategic communications plans across all LA28 communications initiatives, including media relations, commercial communications, and community engagement 
  • Manage media relations activities including supporting and implementing earned media planning and outreach, maintaining media databases, drafting press materials, coordinating interviews, and supporting media events  
  • Draft and edit communications materials including press releases, fact sheets, talking points and other communications collateral across multiple platforms 
  • Manage logistics for communications events including media briefings, stakeholder meetings, speaking engagements, and community events 
  • Lead content development for LA28's editorial library including written materials, infographics, and multimedia content that tells the LA28 story 
  • Assist with Guide stakeholder communications coordination, helping maintain relationships with partners, public agencies, community groups, sponsors, and other key constituencies 
  • Manage executive communications including research, briefing materials and presentation coordination 
  • Monitor and compile media coverage, social media mentions, and communications metrics to support reporting and analysis 
  • Advise on crisis communications and issues management as needed, providing tactical support and coordination 
  • Liaise with internal departments to gather and approve information, develop key messages, and ensure consistent communications across the organization 
  • Help manage communications calendars, deadlines, and workflow to ensure timely execution of initiatives 
  • Lead agency and vendor coordination logistics, including briefings, project management, and deliverable review 
  • Research and competitive analysis to inform communications strategies and messaging 
  • Provide administrative support for the communications team including meeting coordination, file management, and project tracking 
  • Oversee financial administration for the communications team including processing vendor invoices, tracking expenses, and coordinating payment approvals with finance department  

Background & Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of experience in communications, public relations, marketing, or related field 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to adapt messaging for different audiences and platforms 
  • Experience supporting communications campaigns, media relations, or content development 
  • Proficiency with social media platforms, content management systems, and basic communications tools 
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple projects, stakeholders and deadlines simultaneously 
  • Detail-oriented with strong writing, proofreading and editing capabilities 
  • Experience managing events, meetings, or communications activities 
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with external stakeholders 
  • Knowledge of media landscape and understanding of what makes compelling content 
  • Demonstrated ability to craft inclusive communications that reflect different perspectives 
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with changing priorities 
  • Interest in and knowledge of sports, Olympic and Paralympic movement preferred 
  • Media relations experience needed   

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions 

  • Ability to work on-site in an open office environment, based in Los Angeles, CA 
  • The majority of work will be conducted in an office setting, requiring extended periods of time using computers, phones, and other office equipment
  • Hours of work may vary, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, especially during peak event periods. 

Position Requirements

Education:

  • An undergraduate degree in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, business, English, related discipline or equivalent work experience  

Expectations:

  • Diplomatic and politically astute with excellent judgment  
  • Knowledge of the sports industry and key stakeholders in the Olympic and Paralympic ecosystem  
  • Deep understanding of the dynamic social media landscape and emerging media channels to effectively communicate LA28's message 
  • Proven experience working with national and international media at large-scale global events  
  • Strong storytelling abilities with a clear understanding of how to develop and leverage creative content for public affairs initiatives  
  • Versatile professional background that includes both communications agency and in-house experience  
  • Passionate about sports and the Olympic movement, with a genuine enthusiasm for Los Angeles as a host city  
  • Collaborative team player who can work across organizational boundaries  
  • Adaptable and resilient in a fast-paced, evolving environment  
  • Results-oriented with strong attention to detail

The annual base salary range for this position is $ 73,000- $95,000. The pay scale provided is the range that LA28 reasonably expects to pay as starting base compensation for this role. All LA28 compensation remains subject to final determination based on individual candidate qualifications, experience, or other reasonable criteria consistent with LA28’s operational business needs and applicable law.
