Job Description

The Club Business Operations team supports the 30 Clubs in their business efforts, serving as liaisons to both the Clubs and the League. By leveraging industry best practices, analytics, and functional expertise, the group advises Clubs on a day-to-day basis.  The Senior Director, Club Sponsorship acts as the primary strategic consultant between the League Office and the thirty Major League Baseball Clubs on Club Sponsorship matters. Unlike a direct sales role, this position focuses on revenue enablement. You will be responsible for elevating the sponsorship efforts of the Clubs by providing clubs with the data, strategy, best practices, and resources necessary to optimize their local partnership portfolios.

Responsibilities

Strategic Advisory & Best Practices

  • Consultative Support: Serve as a subject matter expert for Club executives on all elements of the Sponsorship landscape.  That would include things like staffing, lead generation, asset management, platform development, retention, etc.
  • Best Practice Development: Identify industry-wide best practices within the Sponsorship space and build best practice documents to be shared with pertinent Club staff.
  • Innovation Lab: Identify impactful opportunities to grow Club Sponsorship revenue (e.g., asset development, new categories, etc.)

Data & Business Intelligence

  • Benchmarking: Partner with the Club Strategy team to optimize the Club Sponsorship benchmarking reports.
  • Valuation Support: Identify third-parties and understand the landscape around sponsorship valuational efforts to provide clubs with guidance in the space.
  • Market Intelligence: Monitor global sports trends and macroeconomic shifts to provide clubs with proactive "Category Alerts" for potential prospecting.

Network & Relationship Management

  • Workshop Leadership: Lead annual Club Sponsorship meeting and monthly "Heads of Club Sponsorship” calls to facilitate knowledge sharing between club executives.
  • League Support: Serve as a liaison between MLB and Club Sponsorship staffs to share insights, best-practices, and policy adherence. 

Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience: 10+ years of experience in sports sponsorship, either at a major professional team, league, or top-tier sports agency.
  • Strategic Mindset: Consulting and/or strategy experience a plus
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to interact effectively with all levels of an organization
  • Excellent teamwork, leadership, organizational, and time management skills
  • Superior critical thinking, analytical, communication (written and verbal), and presentation skills
  • Exceptional data evaluation skills with the ability to interpret information from various sources and offer creative, practical, actionable insights Leadership:
  • Bachelor’s Degree.  MBA degree is a plus.
  • The ability to travel on an ongoing basis within the United States, as well as to Toronto; travel estimated at 10-15%.

Salary Range: $200,000 - $240,000 (Base Salary) + Bonus

As a candidate for this position, your salary and related aspects of compensation will be contingent upon your work experience, education, skills, and any other factors MLB considers relevant to the hiring decision.
