Job Description

Our team of hundreds of skilled experts keep Formula 1 moving. You could play a vital part as a Senior Electronics Hardware Engineer to produce a wide range of bespoke solutions to support the timing, televising, and organisation of Formula 1 events.

The F1 Electronics department produces a wide range of customised and bespoke solutions to support the timing, televising, and organisation of Formula 1 events. We architect and design embedded systems for F1 cars to provide team telemetry and driver/engineer audio, and to deliver on-board video and audio for F1 broadcasters and digital platforms. This is in addition to a variety of other electronics solutions designed by our small inhouse team to support any aspect of an F1 event.

Based in our Biggin Hill Campus, you will:

  • Take product requirements and break them down to hardware level requirements.
  • Component selection to ensure the right solution is implemented for the final product.
  • Schematic capture and layout of PCBs
  • Liaising with PCB fabrication and assembly houses during initial manufacture
  • Board bring-up, debug, and integration testing undertaking collaborative working with embedded software engineers.
  • Development of appropriate test hardware and procedures for development and production
  • Create high quality documentation (requirements capture, tests plans and reports, design documentation, etc.)
  • Support continuous improvement on existing products.

You should be prepared to research and quickly learn new technologies, processes, strategies, and tools to meet project requirements.

While this is not a core travelling role, you may need to attend F1 races to support products during the deployment and handover phases of the projects you work on.

Specification Essentials:

  • Educated to degree level (or equivalent vocational and industry experience) in electronics engineering (or suitable equivalent).
  • Background in the engineering domain, to include electronics, schematic and PCB design.
  • Proven experience in electronics hardware design and development, with a focus on high-performance, high-reliability systems from requirements through to testing
  • Debugging and supporting hardware during system integration
  • Knowledge of electronics design principles, including analog and digital circuit design, power electronics, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), and signal integrity.
  • Familiarity with design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for testability (DFT) techniques.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Good planning skills, including the ability to prioritise and multi-task effectively.
  • Ability to write comprehensive technical design documentation for internal and external use.
