The Engine Distributed Systems team at Roblox is dedicated to developing cutting-edge software technologies that facilitate simulation synchronization between clients and servers. Our focus lies in enhancing multiplayer networking (Netcode) within the Roblox Engine. Our portfolio encompasses the core data framework of the engine, transport libraries facilitating client-server data exchange, network serialization, world streaming, AI-driven performance optimization, server simulation hosting, and more.

Our systems play a crucial role in every play session on the Roblox platform, delivering the data necessary for seamless cooperative experiences among players. As we strive towards enabling cooperative experiences for an infinite number of players in infinitely sized worlds, we seek a Senior Engineering Manager who is not only technically adept but also able to drive impactful outcomes.

This role is based in our San Mateo HQ office (on-site Hybrid with three days per week in San Mateo)

You will:

  • Report to the Director of Engineering for Distributed Systems
  • Cultivate a high-performing team by enhancing engineering practices with innovative ideas and strategies.
  • Be a part of the leadership team - influencing the direction and priorities of both your teams and the broader Engine organization.
  • Drive ownership of projects, problems, and outcomes throughout their entire life cycles
  • Participate technically through coaching, code review, technical review, and architectural guidance

You have:

  • 5+ years of engineering leadership experience
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with executives.
  • Worked cross-functionally with peer teams, internal and external customers, stakeholders, and executives.
  • Passion for high performance software engineering in C++

You are:

  • Passionate about understanding the fundamental workings of computers and a commitment to delving into the intricacies "under the hood"
  • Able to read (and write, if necessary) code yourself in C++. We expect leaders to be very technical.
  • A leader who has a demonstrated capability in promoting an environment of collaboration and innovation with high psychological safety and trust.
  • 5+ years of experience with low-level software engineering or game engine development
For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.  All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits.
Annual Salary Range
$331,640$383,910 USD

Roles that are based in our San Mateo, CA Headquarters are in-office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional in-office on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).

Please note that the actual salary for this position may vary, as it is dependent on various factors including but not limited to experience, location, and market dynamics.
