PrizePicks is looking for a Senior Legal Counsel — Employment to help support the PrizePicks legal department by providing advice and counseling to management and People Ops on a broad range of employment issues including: recruiting, hiring, vendor onboarding, employee relations, disciplinary actions, employment agreements and restrictive covenants, leaves of absence, employment law compliance, and severance. This position will also assist in general legal research and advice to business departments in the company.

 

What you’ll do:

  • Provide expert legal advice and guidance on a variety of employment law issues, including but not limited to wage and hour laws, workplace safety, anti-discrimination laws, complex Family Medical Leave issues, and other related employment law matters.
  • Assist in the management of employment-related claims and litigation. Respond to pre-litigation demands and agency charges.
  • Review and provide guidance or advisory memos relative to client employment contracts, severance agreements, and non-disclosure agreements.
  • Advise People Ops and executive leadership on the investigation of employee complaints, ensuring timely resolution and appropriate reporting.
  • Conduct investigations, make recommendations for resolving investigations, and create documents necessary to execute and follow through on disciplinary processes resulting therefrom.
  • Consult with People Ops and other business departments regarding employment-related policies and guidance to ensure compliance with policies and related laws.
  • Consult with other business departments on employee training and tools to guide company employees and consultants in employment law compliance and best practices.
  • Issue spot for the company on employment law issues, including developments and changes in the law; provide summaries and recommendations to People Ops and other departments.
  • Remain up-to-date on relevant industry, consumer protection, and advertising laws and regulations to ensure an ongoing ability to provide sound advice
  • Various other ad hoc employment issues and projects, including offer letters, guides and procedures, internal controls, and templates.
  • Assist with general legal matters as directed by the SVP of Legal & Compliance.

What you have:

  • 5-9 years of legal experience in employment law.
  • Prior experience preferred in sports, sports entertainment, technology, and/or gaming-related businesses.
  • Prior Experience working with corporate human resources departments.
  • Subject matter expertise in all areas of employment law with particular emphasis on Title VII, ADA, ADEA, FMLA, various discrimination laws and state law equivalents.
  • Strong team player confident in working with others in cross-functional capacities and comfortable reporting to executive-level supervisors.
  • Having a background and/or working knowledge of the DFS industry is a plus.
  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • License to practice law in at least one state of the United States of America.
  • Residence in or near Atlanta, Georgia or willingness to relocate.
