About the Senior People Operations Generalist at Headspace:

We are looking for an experienced Senior People Operations Generalist. This role sits on a small but mighty team of HR subject matter experts who live at the crossroads of tactical process excellence and more complex, employee-facing support. The ideal candidate will have experience in scaling a company with all parts of the employee lifecycle. This person will be someone who enjoys taking on challenges and wants a role that will continually evolve with the company. Our team is proud to function as though we are internal “customer support” for our employees, and seek to continuously elevate how we provide support by leveraging technology and innovative process design. The successful candidate will have a solid generalist background with in-depth knowledge of key HR practices, including immigration, employment law compliance, policy development and implementation.

This role reports to the Manager, People Operations.

What you will do:

  • Be a key point of contact with employees of all levels in the business
  • Support employee and contractor lifecycle management, including processing onboarding, promotions, terminations, and other changes, in UKG (our HRIS system) and other People Systems
  • Directly manage active and passive employee inquiries by providing best in class support to employees through our ZenDesk ticketing platform, as well as generating and promoting new and engaging self-service resources on our internal KnowledgeBase (Employee Self Service)
  • Administer various HR processes and procedures; assist in the development and implementation of people processes and procedures
  • Manage recurring and ad hoc reporting and audits across compliance training, policy acknowledgement, federal/local reporting, including associated action planning and resolution for identified gaps
  • Support mid-level people leaders with sensitive employee-facing conversations including fielding employee relations issues, gathering information for accommodation requests, and providing general coaching
  • Serve as an advocate to employees and people leaders alike, promoting HR best practices across policy drafting/implementation, employee performance, engagement, conflict resolution, etc.
  • Conduct exit interviews to identify key trends, hidden issues, and opportunities for improvement
  • Provide comprehensive support on voluntary and involuntary terminations to ensure consistent “customer service” throughout the employee journey, including on sensitive situations
  • Provide tactical support to cross-functional HR dependent processes, including equity management, variable compensation, performance management, and organizational restructuring
  • Proactively identify, surface, and ideate on ways to consistently elevate our People Operations infrastructure, including employee experience process friendliness, and compliance automation by wearing both your HR and employee hat

What you will bring:

Required Skills:

  • 5+ years providing holistic HR Generalist and/or Business Partner support, with experience working in a scaling organization
  • Includes experience across multiple disciplines, including onboarding/offboarding, HRIS management, employee relations, and - to a lesser degree - benefits/payroll support or knowledge
  • Experience partnering with internal and external stakeholders as a process guide and thought partner
  • Technical savvy, complete with a high degree of analytical competency and passion for data-driven HR
  • Strong knowledge of HR laws and compliance best practices, ideally across multiple states
  • Experience/willingness to balance tactical (hard-skill) and relationship-based (soft skill) work at all levels
  • Proven high capacity for successful self-management, task/project prioritization, and “organizing chaos”
  • Bias for action with a proactive approach towards “root-cause” issue resolution and “big-picture” thinking
  • Demonstrated success communicating with employees on sensitive matters (terminations, investigations)

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in startups, tech companies, and/or healthcare environments
  • Advanced degree and/or HR certification (SHRM or HRCI)
  • Knowledge and/or use of UKG/Ultipro and/or similar HRIS system
  • Experience supporting organizations with distinct business
  • Experience supporting remote-first organizations distributed across the US
  • Exposure to global organizations with UK-based teams

To ensure we are adhering to best practice and ethical guidelines in the field of mental health, we take care to avoid dual relationships. Such steps would be taken to protect both the former member, as well as any relevant individuals from their care team, from impairment, risk of exploitation, or harm.
