Job Overview

The role will involve working on the backend systems of a free-to-play Unreal Engine-based game. You will work within the backend team and closely with other disciplines within the studio to design and implement scalable services capable of supporting millions of players.

Reports to

You will report to the Back End Lead

What will you do?

  • Design and develop service features for a free-to-play Unreal Engine-based game in close collaboration with other disciplines (meta, design, devops, publishing, etc.)

  • Champion the alignment to core SOA principles and drive best practice across the engineering team

  • Work closely with your lead to mentor and train other backend engineers

What are we looking for?

  • A background building complex service architectures in a senior or principle capacity

  • Hands-on Java and/or Kotlin including frameworks such as Spring

  • SQL, document and key-value databases

  • Deep understanding of the JVM around debugging and performance

  • Good understanding of SOA principles

  • Practical experience working to SOLID principles

What additional skills will help you stand out?

  • C++, ideally with experience of Unreal Engine

  • Experience integrating third-party providers for authentication, voice chat, etc

  • Practical understanding of game-domain specific concepts such as matchmaking

  • Build systems such as Maven or Gradle

  • Experience working with highly distributed teams

  • Experience operating a live free-to-play game service
