About This Role

We are looking for a passionate social video editor to join our US video team at The Athletic. In this role, you will primarily work on social video content released on The Athletic’s main social channels. Our ideal candidate will have excellent experience in both creating engaging social-first video content, and all things post-production. Candidates should be adept at turning around high quality video content in fast-paced environments. Applicants should be interested in and have above average, demonstrable knowledge of US sports, particularly basketball and football. 

This is a hybrid opportunity based out of New York City, NY.

Responsibilities
  • Work alongside Social Producers to conceptualize and edit sports-centric videos to be distributed across The Athletic’s suite of social media accounts. 
  • Work under the Senior Executive Producer to create content for our social video channels including YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook.
  • Complete channel and community management tasks such as uploading and scheduling.
  • Work as part of a team with the video growth team to identify trends and scale our social video series.
  • Ensure that your video edits live up to the high editorial standards of the organisation. Our video content must maintain journalistic integrity; as a video editor at The Athletic, you will be responsible alongside the Senior Executive Producer for this.
  • Assist the other video production teams with additional editing when required.

  • Requirements
  • 5+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • BA/BS degree or equivalent professional experience. 
  • Expertise in the use of Adobe Creative Cloud software.
  • Outstanding editing skills.
  • Outstanding knowledge of After Effects post-production graphics FX.
  • On set experience with cameras, lighting and audio desirable. 
  • High level of professionalism; driven and motivated with excellent follow-up.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Creative and strategic thinking skills.
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Direct experience in professional social video content creation
  • Above average, demonstrable knowledge of US sports, specifically basketball and football.
  • This role is based in New York City and will be a mixture of remote and office work.
  • Must be available to work shifts, including weekends and evenings.

  • The annual base salary range for this role is $70,000.00 - $95,000.00 USD. The total compensation offered for this position may vary based on factors such as education, experience, skills, and location. It may also include non-cash rewards and benefits. The base salary range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
