As a Senior Software Engineer (Backend, SaMD) on the Health team, you will help build and maintain exciting features across our three core pillars at WHOOP (Strain, Sleep & Recovery) and connect members to our powerful data science algorithms through beautiful visualizations. You will help our members understand all aspects of their health: physical, mental, emotional, and hormonal, and guide them in ways to understand their physiology and empower them to take an active role in their health journey. The Health team works with cutting-edge technology and research in the health and wellness industry to develop life changing features, like WHOOP’s brand new pregnancy feature, and develops novel measurements, such as WHOOP's stress monitoring feature.
RESPONSIBILITIES:Work in a cross-functional team that collaborates closely with the data science, product, and software engineering teams at WHOOPContribute to backend development using the following technologies: Java, Kafka, Postgres, and other AWS offeringsContribute to new feature ideation, planning, and developmentContribute to the development of features regulated as software as medical device (SaMD)Translate feature requirements into actionable tasks, identify risks, and ship often to mitigate those risksDraft robust documentation to support regulatory complianceWork on scaling challenges that span multiple systems and demand high availability and stabilitySupport and up-level engineers around you through direct and indirect mentorshipQUALIFICATIONS:Experience with backend development in APIs and with interacting with relational databases (RESTful APIs, Postgres)Experience working with asynchronous workers (Kafka, SQS)Experience writing tests and documenting code for a variety of audiencesAn innate passion for approaching large-scale problems through small, data-informed, and experiment-driven iterationsYou are experienced in mentoring engineers in best practices in software developmentYou are a team player who thrives in a fast-paced and data-driven environment and seeks continuous learning and direct feedbackPreferred, but not required: Experience in development approaches that are compliant with a Quality Management System, IEC 62304 - Software lifecycle processes, ISO 14971 - Medical Devices Application of Risk Management
This role is based in the WHOOP office located in Boston, MA. The successful candidate must be prepared to relocate if necessary to work out of the Boston, MA office.
