As a Software Engineer II, you'll also dive into projects that focus on team cohesiveness and cross-team goals. You'll lead without authority and provide other engineers with a clear illustration of extraordinary engineering.

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Quality Frameworks Team within BTS, you’ll report to the Engineering Manager in our Mercer Island, Washington office. You’ll build automation infrastructure and developer tooling, while also defining and enforcing engineering excellence practices that improve development cycles and strengthen software quality for League of Legends and Teamfight Tactics. Partnering with backend service and gameplay teams, you’ll ensure developers can ship features to players quickly and reliably, without compromising on quality. You’ll also help influence League Studio–wide technical decisions and shape how engineers across the studio build, test, and deliver world-class player experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Write high-quality code that follows Riot and industry best practices
  • Develop and adopt tools that allow League of Legends platform to operate multiple games at scale
  • Build and operate scalable microservices that require performance and reliability
  • Uphold a high standard of engineering excellence
  • Collaborate effectively with other disciplines within game development
  • Participate in the team's on-call rotation
  • Participate in interviewing, and help with mentoring and career development of more junior engineers

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of deep hands-on programming experiences in one of the following programming languages: C/C++, Java, Go, Python or C#
  • Experience designing and developing test automation solutions
  • Experience operating & maintaining live web services including handling emergent issues and on-call troubleshooting
  • Experience mentoring more junior engineers 
  • Experience contributing to the development of several large-sized, multi-month development efforts, including requirements gathering, planning, testing, and implementation
  • Experience defining software engineering best practices within your team, including design reviews, coding standards, code reviews, tools improvements, source control management, build processes, and testing
  • Experience collaborating within a cross-functional team and closely-related teams to complete feature work

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with “Infrastructure as Code” and tooling like Terraform, Docker and Jenkins
  • Experience with cloud-based services like AWS, Azure, or other proprietary variants
  • Experience developing and operating global large-scale services
  • Good written communication skills
  • Insatiable curiosity and drive to solve problems
