theScore, a wholly-owned subsidiary of PENN Entertainment , empowers millions of sports fans through its digital media and sports betting products. Its media app ‘theScore’ is one of the most popular in North America, delivering fans highly personalized live scores, news, stats, and betting information from their favorite teams, leagues, and players. theScore’s sports betting app ‘theScore Bet Sportsbook & Casino’ delivers an immersive and holistic mobile sports betting and iCasino experience. theScore Bet is currently live in the Company's home province of Ontario. theScore also creates and distributes innovative digital content through its web, social and esports platforms.

About the Role & Team

As part of the payments team at theScore, you will be working with a group of talented and friendly individuals. Our goal is to provide the best experience to patrons to manage their funds in the app. The payments team helps theScore by integrating with third party payment providers and supporting our client developers through a GraphQL API. We take pride in delivering highly reliable and scalable solutions. We’re always looking for ways to not only improve our knowledge but also share knowledge throughout the company.

About the Work

  • Working with our preferred technology stack: Typescript, React, Tailwindcss, Testing Library, Apollo, zustand.
  • Consume GraphQL & RESTful APIs to integrate with payment providers and vendors
  • Work with Product Management, Design and Backend services to iterate on new features and integrations with payment providers
  • Help identify areas of improvements within our code base and help to make it better.
  • Have the opportunity to learn, collaborate and teach with other members of the team.
  • Participate in the design, architecture, and delivery of new features in a collaborative agile/scrum environment.
  • Use app monitoring tools to help create a better user experience.
  • Write tests for each feature and bug you complete. Testing is important on our team.
  • Help create performant and accessible web applications.
  • Solve technical problems of high scope and complexity.
  • Advocate for improvements to product quality, security and performance that have impact across our team.
  • Strives to reduce technical debt, while communicating with teammates about any larger refactor.
  • Collaborate with the team to define and improve our internal style guide, maintainability and best practices for web applications.
  • Provide mentorship to Junior and Intermediate developers.
  • Actively participate in Engineering efforts that help streamline the experience of our Products
  • Consistently ship moderately sized features and improvements with minimal guidance.
  • Other duties as required

About You

  • Passionate about clean code architecture and software craftsmanship.
  • Experience with a modern web framework and consuming APIs.
  • Experience with Git and GitHub or similar.
  • A solid understanding of React, JavaScript and TypeScript.
  • A solid understanding of working with the browser (Document, Events, Interfaces).
  • Love to learn new technologies and share them with others.
  • Comfortable working in the terminal.
  • Experience with writing automated tests (Jest, Jasmine, Cypress, Playwright).
  • Experience working with profiling tools.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with caching strategies and tools.
  • Always trying to understand why things happen at a deeper level.
  • Consuming and integrating with third party APIs.
  • NICE TO HAVE: Consuming GraphQL APIs, JavaScript SSR, knowledge of browser security (HTTPS, CORS, CSP, etc), contribution to open source software, experience working at startups, passion for sports and/or esports.
