The Software Engineer for HV Control Systems will perform a pivotal role in electrification projects within Williams Grand Prix Technologies. By employing methodologies and expertise from motorsport and Formula 1, WGPT presents a unique opportunity to work with ground-breaking technologies in several areas including Aerospace, Motorsport, Marine, Industrial and Off Highway.

This role will require significant experience in battery system level integration, modelling, and supervisory control with a keen focus on safe operation, pack management, and interfacing with external systems. Experience in serial communications, data acquisition, and storage will also be critical.
Key Responsibilities:
Development, testing and release of safety critical SCADA software adhering to appropriate industrial standards and customer requirements. In particular, the requirements for certification (REG.100, UN38.3 as well as relevant marine, aerospace, or industry standards).
Ownership, design, and execution of the software verification and validation plan to ensure that all requirements are met.
Ensure integration and delivery of high-quality software into a variety of embedded systems, supporting commissioning activities where req.
The management of external interfaces and integration of systems at both software and hardware levels.
Definition and implementation of power distribution, switching, and HV control strategies.
Data acquisition, handling, transmittal, and storage.
Development of system models for design and testing purposes (MIL/SIL/HIL).
Author appropriate SCADA documentation and support the creation of hazard analysis and DFMEA for components and systems as required.
Support the programme team with project and technical reviews so that project milestones are successfully progressed.
Represent WGPT in customer and supplier interactions.
About You:
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Electrical, Computer Science, Control engineering, or a related field.
Demonstrable experience within the field of supervisory control for HV battery systems in multiple different markets through all parts of the design lifecycle.
Proven experience of successfully delivering supervisory control software to appropriate industry standards and certification and integrating with external systems.
Expertise in communication protocols (e.g. CAN), data acquisition and supervisory control strategies.
A strong understanding of electrical integration (including contactor switching strategies, fusing, thermal management) will be required to excel at this role.
Experience working in high-performance industries; such as motorsports, automotive, aerospace, or other dynamic environments.
Desirable Knowledge & Experience:
Familiarity with state-of-the-art supervisory control concepts and management strategies. Experience developing machine learning based monitoring and control algorithms would be beneficial.
Knowledge of safety and certification standards associated with multiple industries (e.g. ISO 26262, IEC 61508, IEC 62619, DO-178C).
Highly experienced developing model-based control software in MATLAB and Simulink.
Proven ability to develop physical battery models in Simscape or equivalent.
Working knowledge of version control tools (e.g. GIT), CI/CD toolchains, and best practices for software development.
Significant experience with various communication protocols (e.g. CAN) and their limitations.
Experience developing HMI panels for battery systems.
Experience in a variety of markets and industries will be beneficial.
Proficient in the development and use of MIL/SIL/HIL testing.
