We help everyday runners become outstanding by providing world-class training, coaching and community for everyone, whether you're improving your 5k time or training for your first marathon. To date we have built iOS, Android and Apple watch apps that help people achieve their goals by coaching them through the full journey and syncing to their favourite fitness devices.
We’re growing extremely fast and in November 2023 closed a new £5M funding round led by JamJar with participation from Eka Ventures, Venrex and Creator Ventures. Our aim is to reach millions of subscribers in the next 5 years and be the go-to training platform for any runner. Who we’re looking for
We are looking for talented, creative and positive team players to join our highly-skilled Cross-Functional Engineering Team to help deliver new features for our iOS, Android and Apple watch applications and third-party integrations (Garmin, Strava, Coros, Fitbit Suuntu etc). You will work closely with our Engineers and CTO to help shape the future of Runna who will be there to support you all the way along this exciting journey.
As an Intern Software Engineer, your role will include:
- Working alongside other Engineers to architect, build, test and deliver new features across the full stack
- Work with Product Managers and Product Designers to identify the most suitable solution for the best customer experience
- Be mentored by our Senior Engineers who will be on hand to help when you need help on technical matters
- Contributing to the building and maintenance our developer tooling and CI/CD pipeline
- We rotate the responsibility of releases among team members, giving each person the opportunity to lead the process and deploy changes to production
- Become a 'Ninja' for a week! Like the release manager, we also rotate a role called 'Ninja'. In this role, you will work closely with our customer service team, chatting with our users and helping them resolve technical issues.
We’re looking for you to join with for a minimum of 7 weeks and up to 12 weeks in total. If you have holidays already booked that’s not a problem - we’re flexible!
Requirements
What experience we’re looking for
If you don’t quite meet all of the below skills, we’d still love to hear from you as we might be able to tweak the role slightly or offer you a position better suited for you. You can apply directly below or contact us if you’re still unsure.
Your key skills:
- Currently studying for a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or similar
- Programming experience outside of your degree (e.g., personal project, side hustle or internship)
- Experience with TypeScript/JavaScript is desirable
- Fast learner and comfortable working on technologies outside your comfort zone
- Comfortable taking on complex problems, with a proven track record of efficiently solving them through critical thinking and innovative solutions
- Understanding of the full software development life cycle
- Enthusiasm for our ways of working which include:
- Iterative development, continuous deployment and test automation
- Knowledge sharing, pair programming, collaborative design & development
- Shared code ownership & cross-functional teams
Bonus points if you:
Don't worry you are not expected to have the below experience but if it is something that interests you then please do get in touch
- Are experienced in delivering features full-stack
- Are experienced in Python or SwiftUI
- Have experience or knowledge deployment, releasing cycles or CI/CD
- Have experience or knowledge with React-Native

- Have experience or knowledge of working in agile teams
- Have open-source contributions

Software Engineer Internship Interview Process
Our goal is to make the interview process as simple and enjoyable as possible. This process consists of the following stages:
- Kick off! (apply below)
- 15-minute introductory chat with one of our Engineers
- 30-minute live coding technical interview (This will consist of two exercises from https://leetcode.com/)
- 30-minute chat with one of our Senior Engineers and CTO (This will consist of general tech questions)
Once the process is finished, we promise to let you know our decision as soon as possible.
Benefits
We'll be growing our package of benefits over time. We currently offer:
- £42.5k salary (pro-rata’ed over your internship)
- Flexible working (we typically work 2-3 days from our office in Vauxhall)
- 10 days flexible holiday, with the choice to use your bank holiday allowance on days that better suit you
- Bi-weekly team run and lunch
- Social throughout the internship (tech and company wide)
Estimated Salary range:
Our salary intelligence, powered by our AI algorithms, has calculated an estimated range for this position between $25,000 - $30,000 . Please note that the actual salary for this position may vary, as it is dependent on various factors including but not limited to experience, location, and market dynamics.
