POSITION OVERVIEW
Serve as the temporary Special Projects Coordinator for MLB’s Corporate Communications division in the Office of the Commissioner. The internship has the opportunity for high-quality learning and workplace experience in a fast-paced environment. This position provides effective and timely assistance to multiple personnel in the communications department who focus on servicing other MLB departments including sponsorship, consumer products, marketing, entertainment, baseball & softball development, diversity & inclusion, community affairs, technology, video games and more.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Compile daily news reports for senior leadership.
• Create media coverage reports.
• Research media outlets and journalists for targeted outreach.
• Compile comprehensive media lists directed toward specific PR outreach and specialized announcements.
• Answer and refer incoming telephone inquiries to appropriate representatives within the Communications department.
• Assist in writing press releases, media advisories and media pitches.
• Proofread communications material and product marketing collateral.
• Develop internal presentations to recap noteworthy announcements.
• Conduct media outreach, as directed by various members of Corporate Communications team.
• Assist in conducting research for industry awards, speaking opportunities, etc.
• Perform related tasks as required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
• Recently graduated (bachelor’s or master’s degrees) preferred.
• Experience in monitoring services, including Cision and Critical Mention, preferred.
• Strong computer aptitude, including strong working knowledge of Google Workspace & Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
• Professional demeanor with strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work overtime as needed.
