About This Role

iRhythm is seeking a Sr. Research Engineer II to join our Product Development team. The Product Development team is made up of a close-knit group of talented engineers representing a wide range of engineering disciplines. This position is a hybrid role that will require you to be on-site in our San Francisco, California office, with flexibility for days of remote work as appropriate.

In this role, you will contribute directly to early-stage research efforts to develop wearable bio-sensors, collaborating alongside a multi-disciplinary team. Responsibilities

  • · Leading research/product innovation activities
  • · Partnering with Clinical and Business Development groups to identify unmet clinical needs and business opportunities that are compatible with iRhythm core competencies
  • · Translating clinical needs to engineering requirements and conversely, communicating technical concepts to non-technical people
  • · Identifying and evaluating promising technologies for incorporation into wearable sensing solutions
  • · Assessing and prioritizing technical activities for improving understanding of sensing technologies
  • · Leading and working alongside a technical team to rapidly prototype embedded and mechanical research platforms
  • · Analyzing and interpreting data through various techniques using Python or R
  • · Working collaboratively with Strategy and Product groups to influence business and product decisions using research and data, and ultimately define the R&D product pipeline
  • · Contributing to generation of intellectual property

About You

You are interested in the intersection of technology and medicine and the evolving world of wearable sensors and digital health. As a versatile and well-rounded engineer, you can just as easily work with clinicians for identification of unmet needs as roll up your sleeves for hands-on prototyping in the lab (e.g., working with evaluation kits or creating basic 3D models in SolidWorks). You are a critical thinker who feels comfortable with making decisions in the face of ambiguity.

Required Qualifications

  • · Advanced degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline. PhD with 3+ years or MS with 5+ years of research experience in medical devices
  • · Familiarity with physiological parameters and sensing (e.g. ECG, pulse oximetry, blood pressure)
  • · Strong grasp of complex, hypothesis-driven experimental design
  • · Fluency with the embedded systems necessary to integrate sensors into real world solutions
  • · Self-motivated with the ability to work independently
  • · Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively across engineering disciplines
  • · Values and prioritizes a supportive team environment that enables open-minded and respectful discussion

Actual compensation may vary depending on job-related factors including knowledge, skills, experience, and work location.


Estimated Pay Range
$167,200$215,000 USD
