Overview
Join a design-forward product development team passionate about creating beautiful and inspiring multi-platform experiences for the world’s most advanced home gym. 

As Head of UX Research, you will be responsible for leading the strategy and practice of user experience and design research for all aspects of Tonal from hardware and software to content, service, and more. You will be the voice of the Tonal member and the frontline advocate for user needs that drive our product development. You will help improve our members’ end-to-end strength training experience, from navigating the Tonal interface on both our proprietary hardware and mobile app in order to find the best content for them through to seeing the results they seek. 

Your mission will be to deeply understand the needs and behaviors of our members and our business needs, and to help Tonal improve and design innovative experiences that our members will love. You will be responsible for user research at every stage of product development from concept to stakeholder alignment, through launch, and beyond.

For this position, we are looking for someone with deep knowledge of user experience research methods and human-centered design, great skill in working closely and collaboratively with a wide range of cross functional partners, including but not limited to those in Design, Product, Engineering, and Data Science, the desire to think holistically about the customer journey, and the ability to execute and innovate.

What You Will Do

  • Set the vision and direction for our members’ experience workout content, working closely with our cross-functional leads in the Product Management, Engineering, Content and Performance teams.

  • Lead with a human-centered design approach and connect user needs with business goals through design.

  • Partner closely with the Design and Product teams.

  • Be able to distill complex and ambiguous problems into clear synthesized solutions for the user.

  • Constantly inform design decisions with user insights and take broad, conceptual ideas and turn them into valuable experiences for Tonal members.

  • Grow, embody and establish best practices for the UXR team.

  • Drive high-level strategic decisions with the rest of the product and design teams.

  • Conduct research across our ecosystem of Trainer, Mobile and Wearables platforms.

  • Use a variety of human-centered design methodologies and deliverables, including facilitating team workshops.

  • Make Tonal exceptional: Contribute ideas and features to the product roadmap based on research data and insights, as well as from your observed experience with Tonal.

  • Define the future of connected home fitness.

Who You Are

  • 10+ years relevant experience as a User Experience and/or Design Researcher with a focus on innovative digital and hardware products that have been released to market.

  • Fully proficient in qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.

  • Proven ability to shape shipped experiences and products that people love.

  • Friendly, collaborative, and a team player above all else.

  • A master collaborator with fellow team members across a diverse range of skills, levels and perspectives.

  • You love big ideas and also enjoy the details. You demonstrate a capacity and enthusiasm for the full spectrum of research, design, and product development.

  • You can lay the groundwork to set new problem spaces up for success, and provide exceptional hands-on execution.

  • Fluency in user-centered design methods and experience to know which to use when

  • A master storyteller; you know how to frame a problem and share solutions that tackle it, keeping leadership on board and with you along the way.

  • An innovative thinker and dreamer who challenges the status quo.

  • College degree in HCI, Human Psychology, Design or equivalent

Extra Credit

  • Experience in fitness and or luxury/premium sectors.

  • MBA or PhD
