The Role: Vice President, Physical Health Services
Location: Remote
The Vice President, Physical Health Services (VPPH) is our clinical leader on all aspects of the physical health service unit. You will partner with the Chief Health Officer to help develop a long term clinical vision Hazel’s physical health offering that you will operationalize. You will build a virtual clinic and the necessary business operations that ramp up Hazel’s medical reach and impact for our public student patients. Due to the start-up nature of this service, you will leverage your track record of entrepreneurial leadership, hands-on management, and multi-site practice / business experience to build and optimize all aspects of the clinic operations and achieve business success. You will also leverage your clinical and medical expertise to ensure the viability, safety, and efficacy of Hazel’s physical health service offering and continually build our quality standards to ensure we provide the best care possible. Finally, you will work closely with Hazel leaders to assess the current and potential future needs of our partner school communities, prioritizing the optimal set of medical services to meet those needs and advance Hazel’s physical health program.
What You’ll Do:
- Team Leadership: Lead a team of medical and clinical professionals, fostering a culture of service excellence, high performance, and innovation. Provide primary oversight for the Supervisory Physicians, Lead MDs and Lead Advanced Practice Providers.
- Clinical Strategy: Lead and contribute to the development and execution of the company’s physical health virtual clinical and medical strategy, in alignment with business goals. Examine opportunities to expand service and new market opportunities. Support product development and partner with tech teams to ensure enablement platforms are user-friendly, secure, and support the delivery of high-quality care.
- Data Analysis: Analyze clinical data to draw insights, make informed decisions, and identify opportunities for improvement. Engage cross-functionally with research and development, marketing, and sales, to integrate medical insights into business strategies.
- Clinical Operations & Protocols: Maximize clinical operations, including workflows, clinical documentation, billing and coding, and overall forecasting of staffing, workforce management. Develop and update medical protocols, guidelines, and procedures for telehealth practice, consultations, and treatments.
- Health Care Partnerships: Engage external partnerships with health plans, community organizations and groups, current and potential funding services, and local, state and federal organizations in governmental units. Represent Hazel on community medical health boards and other local, statewide and national bodies as needed.
- Regulatory Compliance: Work closely with Legal, Compliance, and Medical Affairs teams to ensure all medical and clinical operations adhere to relevant laws and regulations, and professional standards. Collaborate on development and implementation of a robust quality measurement system. Identify and mitigate medical and clinical risks that may affect the company's operations or reputation.
What Excites Us about You:
- Medical Degree: A medical degree (MD or equivalent) is strongly preferred. We also encourage candidates with Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Associate (PA) degrees to apply. All candidates are required to have an independent license to practice clinically and prescriptive authority.
- Clinical Experience: 5+ years clinical practice experience providing pediatric primary and/or immediate care to diverse populations required. Includes demonstrated expertise for delivering successful health outcomes via virtual/telehealth care.
- Business Savvy: Demonstrated understanding of P&L management and unit economics. Ability to achieve business success via relentless focus on metrics / indicators to develop insights and drive actions that impact key revenue and cost drivers.
- Leadership & Management: 5+ years leading and managing teams of 25+ clinical providers in all aspects of a clinical practice, including clinical oversight, operations and financial performance in a multi-site healthcare and/or telehealth environment. Must include a successful track record of managing and providing administrative oversight to MDs and APPs. Demonstrated culture leader, with the communications and interpersonal skills to build, lead, and inspire a team through push through periods of growth and development.
- Startup Acumen: Track record navigating the challenges of a constantly shifting startup or entrepreneurial environment. Clear adaptability, fortitude, and scrappiness to adapt to changing priorities and requirements and to create success in a dynamic, fast-paced setting filled with unknowns.
- Clinical Innovation: The ability to think strategically in order to align medical and clinical efforts with the company's overall business goals, and explore new clinical programs that strengthen the business model and improve clinical service outcomes
External Relations: Experience working with health plans, along with building partnerships with provider groups and aligned organizations across the healthcare ecosystem
- Regulatory Knowledge: Demonstrated understanding of regulatory requirements related to medical and clinical affairs with proven experience navigating growth in a multi-state clinical practice.
Total compensation for this role is market competitive, with a base salary range of $225,000 - $250,000 with an attractive bonus and stock options package, a 401k match, healthcare coverage, paid-time off, and a broad range of other benefits and perks.
