Job Description

With multiple awards to our name, Larian Studios is dedicated to creating best-in-class role-playing games. As we move on to new projects, the studio that brought you Baldur’s Gate 3 & Divinity: Original Sin 2 is looking for a Writer to join the team and help us continue to craft the high quality games our fans expect.

At Larian, a Writer is not just a dialogue writer, but a storyteller, a scene designer, a collaborator, and at heart - a player. They work closely with other creatives to deliver the breadth and richness of agency that we want to experience in games, and to give players the choices that make them ask “Are they really going to allow me to do that?!” Only to discover that not only did we allow it, we built a whole alternative story path out of it.

Responsibilities
  • Write and test complex branching dialogues that have player agency throughout and fulfill the narrative requirements set by Design, Writing, and Narrative Leads and Directors
  • Create memorable and unique characters that are emotionally engaging to interact with, and fit the tone of the project - characters players want to spend time with, not just because a quest needs them to
  • Deliver shippable dialogue that meets the standard set by the Writing Director and Creative Director with minimal rounds of feedback and minimal intervention
  • Collaborate with other teams on the design and execution of situations with a focus on advocating for storytelling and character
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and track dialogues as they move through the pipeline, communicating regularly with other teams to find solutions for dialogue issues and content needs as and when they arise
  • Write texts for in-game non-dialogue elements, including tooltips, item descriptions, journal entries, UI elements, and other ancillary texts
  • Liaise with other teams to answer questions regarding dialogue and story elements
  • Any additional creative tasks required to support the storytelling of the project deemed appropriate by your Lead, the Writing Director, or the Creative Director

  • Requirements
  • You are able to work in English, but don’t need to be a native speaker
  • You are an exceptional writer who can demonstrate your skills through past experience and/or our skills test
  • You play games, are passionate about storytelling in games, and always put the player experience first
  • You have worked in a production or deadline-driven environment before
  • You seek feedback proactively, think critically about your own work, and are continuously working to improve your craft
  • You are able to write a range of interesting and believable characters, and to look for the unexpected angle in their stories
  • You are collaborative, and can demonstrate an ability to work well with others
  • You have experience pitching your ideas to others
