Corporate Counsel, Advertising and Licensing
San Mateo or Los Angeles, CA (hybrid) - will require coming into the office 2 days per week

Join PlayStation as Corporate Counsel for Advertising and Licensing and be at the forefront of shaping the future of entertainment! In this role, you'll provide critical legal support to our innovative Network Advertising team, driving the creation and sale of cutting-edge advertising products across PlayStation's dynamic platforms. You'll also partner with our Merchandise and Peripherals Licensing teams—key players in expanding opportunities to interact with the PlayStation ecosystem and generating significant growth. 

In addition, you will help support PlayStation’s global media strategy, marketing technology, creative and media agencies, and consumer insights teams—ensuring our brand reaches millions worldwide in impactful ways. 

We’re looking for someone who can confidently navigate a high volume of transactions, offering sound guidance that balances legal risks with business goals. You should have experience with the business of digital advertising, its major players, and relevant laws and regulations or with supporting merchandise or peripheral licensing programs. And you should be able to share this experience effectively with and counseling legal and business stakeholders. If you're ready to join a team that's redefining the intersection of technology, creativity, and entertainment, PlayStation is the place for you. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Support PlayStation’s Network Advertising and Licensing businesses by managing and closing a wide variety of business-critical agreements in a high-volume environment
  • Understand and stay up to date on the latest legal developments related to marketing, advertising, and licensing worldwide, and proactively advise the business of relevant legal developments
  • Identify areas where PlayStation’s internal legal processes can be improved to better support the Network Advertising and Licensing businesses, and work with internal stakeholders to drive those changes forward
  • Collaborate with colleagues in legal and the business to anticipate and address challenges related to PlayStation’s Network Advertising and Licensing businesses, and to identify and resolve issues that may fall outside your expertise
  • Secondarily, support other teams within SIE Global Marketing and Advertising and related functions
  • Have strong commercial transactional experience and the ability to draft clear, effective agreements
  • Create scalable solutions that enable growth of the Network Advertising and Licensing businesses and eliminate bottlenecks

Qualifications: 

  • At least 5 years relevant experience, particularly working as in-house counsel in an interactive entertainment or technology company or advertising or marketing agency.
  • JD or LLM degree from top law school; admitted to a U.S. state bar. California State Bar membership is preferred. At a minimum, the candidate must be qualified for and quickly obtain Registered In-House Counsel status in California and the willingness to maintain that status during employment.
  • Experience managing licensing and advertising related commercial transactions and negotiating a wide range of advertising technology contracts including software licensing, SaaS, and data protection agreements.
  • Experience with marketing and advertising related regulatory issues.
  • Working knowledge of data protection and privacy laws such as GDPR, CCPA, and COPPA.

At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role’s base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location.

Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.

The estimated base pay range for this role is listed below.
$209,800$314,600 USD
