Who are we hiring?

The Director Digital Content will be responsible for leading the holistic social media strategy across the Knicks, Westchester Knicks and Jr. Knicks. The position will lead the ideating, creating, and publishing of highly engaging social media content with a focus on optimizing across each channel’s audience. This position will lead daily posting on Knicks social channels with a focus on developing content that entertains and informs each channel’s audience. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of how people consume social content, an eye for detail, and stay up to date on cultural and industry trends. This position will collaborate with the marketing and content teams around team coverage, tentpole events, marketing partnerships, community programs, and more.

  • Demonstrated effectiveness leading and developing a team within a complex, matrixed organization while fostering a culture centered on collaboration and communication.
  • Serve as the primary liaison regarding social and digital initiatives, best practices, communications, programs, and policy alignment with the NBA (league and teams).
  • Create and lead a holistic, platform-specific social media strategy designed to drive fan engagement, enhance brand perception, grow audiences, and increase digital traffic across all Knicks properties (NYK, Westchester Knicks, Jr. Knicks).
  • Act as the strategic connector between digital content and creative teams, ensuring all social output meets Knicks brand standards and aligns with the broader creative vision.
  • Shape and steward the brand narrative across platforms, including development of a comprehensive social playbook that defines voice, tone, and behavioral guidelines while guiding storytelling execution.
  • Oversee the content calendar and publishing cadence to deliver compelling, timely, and high-quality content (video, graphics, photography, copy) year-round, with a focus on games, practices, events, major announcements, and trending moments.
  • Direct live content strategy for games and events, leading rapid-response coverage and overseeing digital storytelling in fast-paced, high-pressure environments.
  • Lead AI usage across social operations to speed up trend identification, content testing, and performance improvement while maintaining human interaction.
  • Manage monetization settings on YouTube, Facebook, and other channels to maximize revenue potential. 
  • Design and execute proactive monitoring frameworks and response strategies to safeguard and elevate brand reputation during critical moments.
  • Partner with the Digital Marketing team to align organic social strategy with paid initiatives, amplifying campaign performance and advancing key business priorities such as ticketing and merchandise sales.
  • Collaborate with the analytics team to track and analyze content performance by establishing appropriate KPI’s. Translate data into insights to optimize performance and strategy. Balance creative insight with quantitative analysis.

What do you need to succeed?

  • 8 - 10+ years’ experience in social media, with majority of time spent in sports industry.
  • 5+ years leadership experience managing a team.
  • Experience working in team or league environment is strongly preferred.
  • Expert in social media and digital content including a well-developed portfolio of content captured, created, and posted.
  • Full proficiency in social media platforms such as Facebook, X, Instagram, Snapchat, Tik Tok, Weibo, YouTube and emerging platforms.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suites (Photoshop, Premiere, and Lightroom preferred) and in-platform editors.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and cross-functionally to navigate and prioritize in very sensitive, high paced environments.
  • Knowledge of basketball/NBA and the Knicks team, including performance and stats, industry trends, basketball culture and fan engagement with the league and its athletes.
  • A deep understanding of full 360 marketing functions with proven ability to translate digital initiatives across departments.
  • A creative problem solver and innovator who is not just repeating what’s been done but interested in helping to build what is next.
  • Ability to lead workstreams from inception to execution. Willing and able to dig into execution as much as strategy and deliver results with quality and speed.
  • Passion, ambition, resilience and work ethic to sustain unwavering performance across 82 game-season and 50+ events requiring always-on attention and accessibility, non-traditional work hours and occasional travel. Weekend work and game attendance is required to support game and player schedules.
  • The ideal candidate will obsess over audience insights, performance metrics and data-driven decision making to help drive creative optimizations to deliver business results.

SUPERVISION:  Oversees social team of 7 people

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB:

  • Hands-on support across 82-game schedule, NBA and Knicks events (50+)
  • Travel will be required 10%-15% of the time

Pay Range
$113,000$205,000 USD
