SUMMARY
We are seeking a Director of Market Research & Insights to lead the market research strategy, execution, and communication of audience insights across our existing BSE Global properties. This individual will oversee fan segmentation, primary and qualitative research initiatives (including focus groups and surveys), and actionable reporting to inform cross-functional decisions across consumer marketing, sales, and brand teams. This person will report directly to the VP of Data Analytics & Insights and will play a key role in helping BSE become a data-first organization.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Lead the design and execution of market research initiatives—including but not limited to segmentation studies, focus groups, and surveys — across Brooklyn Nets, NY Liberty, Long Island Nets, and Barclays Center.
- Act as a strategic advisor to key collaborators, presenting research findings and offering guidance on strategic direction.
- Develop clear, actionable insights from data and research that directly inform business strategies and enhance fan engagement efforts.
- Build and implement research methodologies to understand trends, consumer preferences, and emerging opportunities.
- Own the end-to-end strategy for survey-based research, including survey design, methodology, distribution, analysis, and reporting; provide guidance and best practices to internal stakeholders to ensure high-quality data collection and actionable insights.
- Serve as the lead authority on fan personas and behavioral insights across BSE properties.
- Lead brand health tracking and sentiment analysis efforts, combining qualitative and quantitative inputs to assess audience perception, measure marketing effectiveness, and guide brand strategy.
- Partner cross-functionally with functions like Marketing, Sales, and Arena Operations to ensure audience understanding informs the customer experience.
- Assess global market trends and international fan behaviors to inform audience growth and property positioning across regions.
- Manage relationships with third-party vendors, overseeing project scope, delivery timelines, and research outcomes.
- Build and maintain dashboards and reports that surface key insights and KPIs to internal stakeholders.
- Identify and champion emerging trends in fan behavior, consumer research, and the sports/entertainment landscape.
- Explore and apply emerging AI tools and technologies to enhance market research capabilities, accelerate insight generation, and uncover deeper patterns in audience behavior and sentiment.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING:
- 8+ years of experience in consumer insights, data analysis, or audience research, preferably within sports, entertainment, or media industries.
- Demonstrated ability to lead segmentation, primary research, and qualitative insight workstreams from start to finish.
- Proven track record of leading market research projects and strategic insights to drive results.
- A strategic approach with the ability to think creatively and solve complex problems.
- Expertise in research tools and methods, including focus groups, surveys, clustering, personas, and concept testing.
- Proven ability to assess when to conduct research in-house versus outsourcing, with experience managing external research vendors, agencies, or consultants to deliver high-impact insights.
- Proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel, and Google Suite. Familiarity with Tableau or other BI tools is a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Psychology, Sociology, Business, or a related field.
WHO YOU ARE:
- Strong visual storyteller and presenter, particularly in synthesizing data into clear, business-friendly insights.
- Proficient in leveraging research technologies and tools to optimize workflows; experienced in integrating qualitative and quantitative methodologies within a robust technical infrastructure to generate meaningful insights and business value.
- Experienced in working directly with marketing, brand, or ticketing teams in a strategic advisory capacity.
- Strong project manager with the ability to juggle multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
Travel may be required on rare occasions (< 5% travel); may require air travel and/or overnight stay of one or more nights.
SALARY RANGE:
$120,000 - $140,000
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work primarily in an office environment.
