The Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games will be hosted in Los Angeles, California in 2028, returning to the United States for the first time in over 30 years. 2028 will be the first time LA hosts the Paralympic Games, creating an opportunity to expand awareness, understanding and inclusion of people with disabilities.

Head of Results:

LA28 seeks an experienced professional to serve as Head of Results within the LA28 Technology Functional Area. 

The LA28 Results team, through partnerships with Omega (the Official Timekeeper & Results Services Partner), Deloitte (Technology Services Integrator) and other partners, is responsible for the on-field capture of timing & scoring information and the real-time delivery of these results to a wide range of stakeholders via a variety of mediums and applications This mission critical service is central to the success of the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games. 

The Head of Results is ultimately responsible for overseeing the planning, design, delivery and operational management of timing, scoring and results services that are deployed to the 40+ Olympic and Paralympic games competition venues. This includes the contractual management of Omega, which is responsible for the provision of Timing & Scoring (T&S) and On-Venue Results (OVR) services, as well the contractual management of Deloitte in relation to its responsibilities for sports results management, applications and integration including the provision by Deloitte of Sports Results Managers.  

The position also requires close collaboration with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), International Paralympic Committee (IPC), International Federations (IF's), other IOC TOP partners as well as LA28 domestic partners and service providers.  

The position reports to LA28’s Chief Information Officer in the Technology department, based in our Los Angeles offices, and is a member of the LA28 Technology leadership team. The position will have a small team of LA28 personnel to recruit and manage, forming the LA28 Results team (noting that the majority of timing, scoring and results services and resources are the responsibility of Omega and/or Deloitte). 

Key Responsibilities:

Stakeholder Relationship Management 

  • Build and maintain relationships with key external results stakeholders including IOC, IPC, Omega, Deloitte, Olympic Broadcast Services (OBS) and the sport international federations (IF) for the related timing, scoring and results services.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key internal LA28 stakeholders, such as the Sport, Venues and Media Functional Areas'.  
  • Own the Omega relationship and contract
  • Own the Deloitte relationship and contract as it related to Sports Results Management.   

Results Planning and Execution  

  • Ensure LA28 Technology input, representation and oversight for the IOC “ORIS” (Olympic Results & Information Services) and IPC “PRIS” (Paralympic Results & Information Services) processes, which capture the requirements of IF's for all results outputs. 
  • Ensure LA28 Technology input, representation and oversight of the end-to-end testing (including Homologation Testing with IOC and IFs) and validation of all results-related systems (e.g. OVR, Sports Entries & Qualification, Schedule Management, Commentator Information System, Web Results, Media Zone, Common Codes, Report Distribution, Olympic Data Feed)
  • Deliver video adjudication capabilities in collaboration with LA28 sport team and International Federations
  • Ensure the definition, delivery and compliance of all results-related operational policies and procedures
  • Preparation and participation in the organization and operation of the various test events as well as competition preparation and Technology Rehearsal (TR) exercises and Games competition preparation with all stakeholders. 

Venue and Equipment Collaboration 

  • Own the capture and documentation of other IF Results Requirements outside of results outputs (e.g. IT equipment and services)
  • Collaborate with LA28 Technology's applications team, Deloitte, Omega and other teams on results delivery to stakeholders and systems
  • Ensure that Omega’s planning and requirements for logistics support, equipment, spaces, power, cooling, FFE, HSE and structures are captured, communicated to the appropriate teams and fulfilled.  
  • Collaboration with the Venue Tech team to ensure that Audio-Video (A/V) equipment and services fulfills agreed results requirements. 

Budget and Risk Management 

  • Manage the approved budget for Results requirements and services 
  • Identify cost optimization opportunities through design, management of requirements and use of alternative technologies as appropriate.
  • Work closely with the Technology Services Integrator to: 

- ensure all Results activities are planned, documented and integrated into the LA28 Technology Master Plan

- ensure all results applications are delivered according to requirements 

- identify and manage key risks and ensure that appropriate mitigation strategies are developed and implemented 

- effectively manage escalations and issues as and when required. 

Leadership, Team Management, and Legacy Planning 

  • Work closely with key stakeholders (internal and external) to identify post Games legacy opportunities.
  • As a member of the Technology Senior Leadership Team, contribute to the ongoing development of the Games technology strategy and the overall management of the Technology team.
  • Participate in (or lead if required) relevant Steering Committees and Working Groups as needed  
  • Prepare and deliver reports to internal and external stakeholders (including the IOC).Prepare and deliver the Knowledge Transfer to the IOC and future Organizing Committees.
  • Recruitment and management of a small team of LA28 Results personnel
  • Fulfill a key management position in the Technology Operations Center (TOC) in a shift pattern covering 24 x 7 during the Test Events, Technology Rehearsals and the Olympic and Paralympic Games 

Background & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area (e.g. science, engineering, technology) or extensive relevant experience (at least 10 years). 
  • Proven ability to engage and establish strong relationships with a large set of very different stakeholders.  
  • Experienced in managing large and complex projects/programs with full budget accountability. 
  • Previous senior leadership experience in the planning and execution of technology results services within a multi-sports / multi-event context is essential, preferably in an Olympic context. 
  • Previous experience of working with video adjudication systems (e.g. Hawkeye) is preferable. 
  • Lead the successive but rapid phases of planning and design, deployment, operational readiness and operations in collaboration with partners and very demanding clients. 
  • A strong leadership presence and ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders at all levels. 
  • Demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB). 
  • Not afraid to roll-up-sleeves when needed.
  • An outstanding collaborator, adept at working within a complex matrixed environment. 
  • Pragmatic with high energy, detailed in nature, with a passion for excellence. 

Physical Conditions and Working Conditions: 

  • Participate in on-site venue technology audits to assess existing capabilities vs Games requirements. This may include walking, standing for extended periods, climbing stairs, and navigating large event sites.
  • Travel occasionally to different venues across the Los Angeles region and possibly outside the Greater Los Angeles region including other states.
  • International travel to Spain (location of the Integration Test Lab) and Switzerland (location of IOC and Omega offices/lab) and other locations from time-to-time.

The annual base salary range for this position is $175,000.00 - $200,000.00. The pay scale provided is the range that LA28 reasonably expects to pay as starting base compensation for this role. All LA28 compensation remains subject to final determination based on individual candidate qualifications, experience, or other reasonable criteria consistent with LA28’s operational business needs and applicable law.
