As the Lead Compounding Pharmacist you will be responsible for the operations of our non-sterile compounding facility in Romeoville, Illinois. This position is responsible for managing daily compounding activities, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations and guidelines, and leading a team of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.

You will play a pivotal role in maintaining quality standards, optimizing workflows, and implementing and enforcing policies and procedures. Collaboration with cross-functional teams including Supply Chain, Compliance, Corporate Quality, and Operations is essential to support business growth, ensure product integrity, and maintain a high-performing work environment. This role reports directly to the Pharmacist in Charge.

This posting is for our location in Romeoville, Illinois. This hire is for a full time role.

What You'll Do:
  • Oversee daily operations of the non-sterile compounding lab, with a focus on both hazardous and non-hazardous preparations.
  • Monitor and drive performance against pharmacy metrics including productivity, quality, safety, and compliance.
  • Lead daily workflow scheduling, team meetings, and performance evaluations including regular 1:1s with direct reports.
  • Manage, coach, and support a team of compounding pharmacists and technicians.
  • Serve as a liaison between the PIC and your group of pharmacists/technicians to maintain an open, 2-way line of feedback.
  • Oversee onboarding and training of new compounding staff to ensure alignment with current procedures and best practices.
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee and participate in compounding of prescription medications in accordance with USP guidelines, SOPs, and safety protocols.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for non-sterile compounding operations, including hazardous drug handling per USP <800>.
  • Ensure rigorous adherence to compounding procedures, documentation standards, and safety protocols.
  • Conduct audits to verify the accuracy and timeliness of all compounding activities.
  • Partner with the PIC and compliance officer  to ensure compliance with all federal and state regulations and accreditation standards.
  • Ensure all compounding equipment is properly utilized, maintained, and calibrated.
  • Work closely with Supply Chain, Compliance, Operations, and Quality teams to ensure a seamless integration of compounding processes with broader pharmacy operations.
  • Provide input on facility improvements, process enhancements, and expansion plans.
  • You may be required to obtain and maintain non-resident pharmacist licenses to support multi-state operations.
  • Support additional operational tasks and responsibilities as assigned by pharmacy leadership

  • What You'll Bring to the Team:
  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy from an accredited college of pharmacy 
  • Ability to work on site 40 hours per week (Monday-Friday) plus rotating on weekends
  • Comply with all state and federal laws and regulations
  • Extensive knowledge of USP 795, 797, and 800 regulations
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in a compounding pharmacy, with at least 1–2 years in a leadership or supervisory role
  • Background in sterile compounding preferred
  • Ability to work in a high volume fast paced environment
  • Team player with outstanding communication skills 
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
