Job Description

The Club Business Operations team supports the 30 Clubs in their business efforts, serving as liaisons to both the Clubs and the League. By leveraging industry best practices, analytics, and functional expertise, the group advises Clubs on a day-to-day basis.

Club Business Operations is seeking a Club Business Lead to be a trusted business consultant for a designated set of MLB Clubs.  The role of a Club Business Lead is to be the main day-to-day liaison for Club leadership on a variety of business matters, collaborating on key efforts across the Club business.  Additionally, this person will act as a trusted voice at the league office to provide the Club perspective in key discussions around policy and overall business approach.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain relationships with senior members of Club staff (e.g., Ownership, Club Presidents, leadership across all business verticals) for designated Clubs
  • Identify key areas of strengths, opportunities, and threats to the Club's business model through a holistic understanding of their business
  • Coordinate and execute in-market visits with designated Clubs to collaborate on business strategies
  • Provide recommendations and insights on business strategies to advance the Club’s efforts within their local marketplace. This will include efforts across Ticketing, Sponsorship, Marketing, Game Presentation, Premium, Analytics/Strategy, Stadium innovation, Staffing structure, etc.
  • Identify and share customized and applicable industry best practices based on specific business needs
  • Collaborate with multiple departments at Major League Baseball to ensure there is two-way information sharing and alignment between the League and Clubs
  • A strategic thought-partner and content creator for “All-30” Club meetings and calls
  • Serve as liaison between League and Clubs by managing key communications and meetings
  • Meet with applicable vendors to provide introductions and recommendations to Clubs
  • Significant travel required

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree 
  • 10+ years of experience
  • Experience in sports, specifically Club/Team experience (preferably in Ticketing, Sponsorship, Premium, or Marketing)
  • Consulting and/or strategy experience a plus
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to interact effectively with all levels of an organization 
  • Excellent teamwork, leadership, organizational, and time management skills 
  • Superior critical thinking, analytical, communication (written and verbal), and presentation skills 
  • Exceptional data evaluation skills with the ability to interpret information from various sources and offer creative, practical, actionable insights 
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
  • Well-organized and detail-oriented 

Salary Range: $200,000 - $240,000 (Base Salary) + Bonus

As a candidate for this position, your salary and related aspects of compensation will be contingent upon your work experience, education, skills, and any other factors MLB considers relevant to the hiring decision.
