Summary
The Senior Researcher helps to lead the development and distribution of research to the NFL Media Group, ensuring editorial consistency and factual accuracy.
Essential Functions
- Leads the development of research around tentpole events and other short & long term priorities of the NFL Media Group
- Leads the development of editorial content ensuring that ideas are properly executed as graphics, segments, pieces and more on live studio shows
- Contributes to daily content distribution plan that pushes targeted research materials to content creators throughout the Media Group
- Develops original storylines, notes, nuggets and “boards” that provide statistical context around events, news stories and topical issues
- Recognizes and anticipates league and team trends, applying appropriate statistics to create content
- Ensures factual accuracy of all content generated
- Works within our standards for high quality research content while maintaining tireless work ethic on a consistent basis
- Works closely with coordinating producers, producers, editors, digital team, talent and writers
- Makes significant and essential contributions to Weekly Research Notes, breaking news and numerous research-related projects supporting the Media Group
- Utilizes broad football knowledge and awareness of the NFL Media Group’s platform to anticipate the research needs
- Collaborate with research team on best practices regarding both dedicated show research and general research support
- Assists in developing and implementing best practices and training materials for the seasonal research staff
- Recommends changes to enhance current research methods and standards
- Must be able to adhere to strict deadlines and react to breaking news
- Strong writing and editing skills are required
- Strong attention to detail skills are required
- Must be able to communicate information accurately
Required Education and Experience
- 3-5 years professional experience working with statistics or covering or analyzing sports events and news
- Undergraduate degree
- Must have strong foundation of knowledge about current and historical football statistics, news, events and milestones
- Must be technologically savvy, with strong command of Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel
- Must have strong familiarity with digital and social platforms
Preferred Education and Experience
- Experience in sports media
- Previous work experience working for or covering the NFL
- Proven track record of success working with high profile broadcasters
- Proven ability to work collaboratively and on deadline
- Knowledge of football research databases/resources a plus (i.e. Pro Football Reference, Pro Football Focus, Next Gen Stats, etc.)
- Thorough knowledge of football media landscape, including emerging platforms and competing properties
- Detailed knowledge of television production processes, including awareness of key editorial roles
